Anyone having issues this Fall with house crickets?
I think they are also known as spider/cave/camel crickets and they invade your basement and are beyond disgusting. The guy at the store said that glue traps are flying off the shelves.
If anyone has gone through this - how long before you can get rid of them if you are using the glue traps? Will an exterminator spraying chemicals help?
I refuse to go down into the basement now and I am praying they don't start creeping into the living space.

Re: Anyone having issues this Fall with house crickets?
Cave crickets are SO disgusting. We have them however, they pretty much stay in the garage..............THANK GOD!!!
We had a problem over the summer with regular crickets getting into our son's room so DH did a little research on "homemade cricket traps". We made a trap out of an empty soda bottle (cut the top off and flip it over and reattach). You fill the bottle with plain breadcrumbs and sugar and leave it outside, the crickets are attracted to the sugar and breadcrumbs and jump right into the bottle but cannot get out. We put one at the base of the house where we thought they were getting in somehow and he has NEVER had a cricket in his room since. We still have the trap out there (since August) and it's FILLED with crickets!!! You should try it!

Re: Anyone having issues this Fall with house crickets?
We had them and we don't have a basement so they were in our living space! Jumping when I would walk in a room! It was really bad our first year in the house. But dh is now crazy with moving leaves and debri away from the house and we haven't had them in the house since last year. So maybe check the perimeter of the house for leaves or things they might be hiding in etc and get them away from the house!

Ugh, they are in my basement too. We had them last year, too,and it got to the point that they were all over the basement so we put out a glue trap and it worked great. Caught like 20 of them. And then they were gone for a year until this Fall again.

Re: Anyone having issues this Fall with house crickets?
Ironically; this is the first year that they arent that bad in my house. A few here and there in the garage but EVERYONE I speak to have them pretty bad.
They will be gone once the morning frost is consistent. In another few weeks........they will start dissipating.

We spray Ortho Home Defense around the perimeter of the house and in the garage. It keeps them out. No glue traps needed.

Wow, ok so its not just me. I was beginning to think there was something wrong with my house. No matter how many the traps catch, there are always more.

I had heard them but I had moved a garment bag on the floor and they surprised me just I surprised them. I don't like things jumping at me and those little buggers were almost attacking me.
I just couldn't believe how many there were.
It seems like it has calmed down. But we still have been getting one here or there.

they are particularly bad this year.
I'm still trying to figure out how that soda bottle thing works - I can't wrap my head around it!

Get a cat. They eat them. :)
But if not, Tomcat glue traps catch them all. I never see a live one.

oh let them live, they are harmless, annoying but harmless. put them back outside. I hate hearing of anything being killed.
remember they were here long before you and I were. Homes were built on top of their homes...

We've had a couple. I just pinpoint where they are and suck them up with the wet-dry vac.

Re: Anyone having issues this Fall with house crickets?
throw down some borax...they can't stand it and will leave your property. we had them in our crawl space and they were making their way into the house...once the borax went down they disappeared :)

Yes but I can't run around looking for them and then catching them (as they jump around). It's hard to just relax down there knowing they are lurking in all corners! Yuck.

Re: Anyone having issues this Fall with house crickets?
Apparently Sperry docksiders are a great trap for them. Every time I go to put them on when I am getting dressed in the morning they are crunching under my feet ?? My dog freaks out and chases them around and barks. They jump out of nowhere when my 10 month old is crawling around on the floors. I hate them. I wish there was something pet friendly I could spray on the outside of the house. The glue traps get filled within a day easily.

Anyone having issues this Fall with house crickets?
Our garage has them and we use Niban and JT Eaton glue traps. We order both online and never see the camel crickets anymore. Trust me, ive researched hi and low how to get rid of these things and i think ive found the best solution using these two products.
