How is the food there? I've heard it's not the greatest. I also heard that many pack snacks and so forth since there is a mini fridge in the room.
Are there any restaurants close by? Any you'd recommend?

Re: Kalahari
The restaurants are good. The snack area near the water park is ehhhh. And the service and set up was awful. But for breakfast and dinner we ate in the sit down casual restaurant and it was good. Way way way better than Dutch Wonderland. We found a great brewery/ restaurant near by too. I have to find you the name. Drawing a blank.
Eta... Found it! Barley Creek Brewery. Close by and very very good food. Kid friendly

The buffet dinner and breakfast was fine and a reasonable price.

They have great food in the buffet, but not in the place near the water park. My kids loved the smoothies. I have to second the Barley Creek Brewing Company. It was outstanding.

Re: Kalahari
Food wasn't bad. Surprisingly better than I was expecting. Nothing amazing but not bad at all.

Can I piggy-back? I know you can't bring food into the waterpark area, but are there any tables around the area that you can bring your own food to? Or is the only choice eating in your room?

I guess you could eat in the lobby- they have tables and chairs- more like for coffee and stuff but you could.
I don't think they would allow outside food in the snack bar/food court area.... but I can't say for sure.

Re: Kalahari
I thought the food in the buffet breakfast was pretty good, lots of choices.
We really liked the sit down restaurant in the lobby for dinner. We got burgers and sandwiches that were better than the ones in the café by the waterpark.
We hid snacks and water in our bag (and in the basket under the stroller).
