Traveling with a newborn and a 3 year old
I am due to have DD2 in early December. At some point in January I have my SIL baby shower OOS. In February we have DHs family function also OOS. We had planned to stay with family but in both cases we would all be in one room. I'm now thinking a 3 year old and a 5-8 week old together overnight might be difficult with midnight feelings, baby cries etc. Anyone travel like this before? Suggestions on a way to make this work? We could plan on a 2 bedroom hotel for DH family function but there is a good chance I'll be heading to the shower OOS sans DH.

Sounds like just about all the traveling we do. My main recommendation would be to travel with a good sound machine! Some nights we all slept well, other nights were rough. My older one really never woke up to the baby crying and if you're planning to nurse at least you can quiet the baby quickly! At 3 my older one was in a toddler bed at home but we still put her in a pnp to travel and she didn't complain. Now she's in a cot or air mattress and is okay. With the air mattress at least dh has a place to go if both girls end up in my bed lol.

we went on a cruise when dd1 was 3 and dd2 was 1 1/2. i dl a sound machine app and played that all night. plus we each slept with one and i slept with younger dd. i just tried to calm dd2 as quickly as i could so dd1 wouldn't wake up from her noises.

Re: Traveling with a newborn and a 3 year old
We went on vacation when DS3 was 6 weeks. DS1 was 5 and DS2 was 2. It was fine. As soon as I heard DS3 stir I would make a bottle so that he never got to full on crying. You would be surprised at how much kids can sleep through though.

We did a 1 br suite. One baby in the bedroom, one in the living area, both in pack n plays. I got up and nursed the newborn without disturbing my older child.

Re: Traveling with a newborn and a 3 year old
DD and DS are 3 years apart and we started traveling with them early. The baby would sleep in the rock n play we would bring with us and DD would either sleep between DH and I in a big bed or on a small toddler size travel blow up bed.
I would always just grab DS qucikly when he fussed and DD was a pretty good sleeper.
