Re: Norwegian Breakaway

I've done this cruise with a 6 & 4 year old. Great ship - Gets crowded though. Bermuda is amazing. Anything in particular you want to know about it?

Thanks for responding.

I guess I am looking for favorites restaurants, any kids club info or tips, and fun things for the kids to do on the ship.

Thanks!!

Great ship! We did Bermuda too and loved it.
We did a dinner with Cirque de Solei
We did all the specialty restaurants... favorite was Italian, wasn't crazy about the French one.
Liked the climbing course (even with little ones).
I wish I tried the Ice bar.
Loved the bowling!
I remember it being hard to get seats for the entertainment... but we did go with friends.
We never do the kids clubs.
We really had a lot of fun at the rooftop dance parties!
I like cruising... thought the ship was bigger than I normally like, but we had a great time.

We had a totally different experience!

Great ship - AND I agree about Bermuda

Didn't do Cirq - But we heard amazing things.

Specialty restaurants - Hated the Italian, French was not our thing. We loved Cagneys Steakhouse & Moderno (Brazilian Churrasscaria)
Hated the climbing course, but I'm afraid of heights. If you aren't afraid like me, you will love it. Really really impressive course!

Entertainment - Excellent. Saw Burn the Floor & Rock of Ages. Broadway style productions. Loved them both.

Kids club - My kids loved it. No complaints

Rooftop dance parties were pretty cool. but we never really got to experience it because my kids were exhausted by 10pm.

We got VIBE passes to the exclusive private area on the ship. If you can score them, you will have no issues with crowding when finding a lounge chair.

Never had an issue with food - I actually thought everything was quite good.

Cabins are very small, as are the balconies.

I did not like the layout of the ship. At all. It felt too closed in & boxy at times, and felt more like a floating hotel then a cruise ship. The pool area is tiny and not very well designed to accommodate the 4000+ passengers on the ship. Overall I would do this cruise again based on the itinerary. I love Bermuda.

You will have a good time though. The pros (for us at least) certainly outweigh the cons. If you can get the beverage package, it is very worth it. The bartenders at Shakers Martini bar are awesome.

This May we decided on doing RCCL Anthem of the Seas out of Bayonne. Certainly beats flying to get to another port!

Thank you!!!

We are going Memorial Day week and we can get the free drinks and free 3rd and 4th guest.

Any thoughts on the waterfront? It looks really fun.

The waterfront, that's where there's bars and restaurants on the lower side decks of the boat, right? I really liked that aspect. I've never seen it on any of the other Norwegian cruises I've been on. It's a little rough on a windy day when you're at sea, but generally we liked to spend time out there. Like pps said, the entertainment on the Breakaway was top notch. We were surprised how much we loved the Cirque du Soleil show! I highly recommend it. We didn't do the specialty restaurants but that's because we always liked the main dining rooms and the buffets. You're going to have a blast!

I actually had that same cruise booked and cancelled it for the Anthem.

The Waterfront is a pretty cool concept. Honestly, we never ate dinner outside because it was always so windy. Also, we never really saw too many people hang out there, so it is perfect for a sunset stroll. On deck 8, there is a cigar lounge and the smell could be really pungent in that immediate area.

Norwegian Breakaway

we did it a couple years ago. DS had just turned 3... so he was old enough for the kid's clubs, but he was really young, and didn't want to stay LOL we were fine with that. your kids are old enough that they'll probably love the kids club!! My DS is 5 now, and loved the kids club on the Disney cruise in january. so your kids would love it!
the ropes course is cool, if you're not afraid of heights. i chickened out LOL they also have a small one for young kids, which is cool. Its barely off the ground, but DS got a kick out of wearing the harness and stuff Chat Icon
we thought the food was good- we liked that there were a couple different choices that were included in your cruise price- like the Irish Pub. you could eat there for something different, without paying as a "signature" restaurant.
I liked the shows at night, too!! BUT i didn't think they were really "kid friendly" SO if your kids don't like the kid's club, you'll probably have to work something out with your DH or whatever to hang with them while you go to the show. (thats what we did).
we did the florida and bahamas itinerary- nassau, port canaveral and somewhere else- maybe NCLs island?? on nassau we did a jeep tour, which was fun- it stopped at a beach so that was neat. we didn't get off in port canaveral- but they did have a day tour to Disney at that port...
Overall, the ship was new and gorgeous!!! very clean, staff was great, food was good... it is a big ship though, so yeah it does feel crowded at some points... but it wasn't unbearable. you'll have a great time!!

thank you very much. we did a disney cruise last year and my kids were ok in the kids club. i think they might do better in ncl's because i hear its a more structured kids club rather than the free play on disney.

we liked to use it for dinners (so dh and i) could finish our meal in peace...lol...and for a couples massage. so i'm hoping they enjoy it so we can get a little adult time.

i'm really looking forward to the ropes course. and i am a little concerned about the entertainment, disney (obviously) was so accommodating to kids, i know this will be a little different. but i'm really looking forward to it.

I would definitely NOT recommend Rock of Ages for kids!
