Re: My Generation or Journey Girl
My friends likes the quality of the Target brand. Her DD has american girl dolls but she buys a lot of accessories from Target. She recommended I get DD ones of the dolls from there when I mentioned that if DD asked me for an American Girl Doll I would probably get her an off brand first to see if she really like them before investing in American Girl doll

Re: My Generation or Journey Girl
I am going to try the Target one. I just can't bring myself to spend $120 on a DOLL. I don't care if the doll was made by special fairies and crapped out gold nuggets into a silk diaper. I can't see how it's worth the money.
Can anyone tell me how it's worth $120 vs like the $30 ones at Target? Like what is so much better about a DOLL for a child that it warrants that kind of cash vs a normally priced doll?
Because I have tried and tried to justify it in some way. And I tend to splurge on things for DD. I do.
But this- I just can't wrap my brain around it as hard as I try.

My Generation or Journey Girl
I just picked up two target dolls yesterday for my 2 and 4yos for the holidays. I took them in to look at them and they were mesmerized. Good enough for me.
I had plenty of the AG books as a kid ands loved them. I knew better than to expect my parents to buy a doll lol.

The hair is def more manageable on the ag dolls. Is it enough to make me spend the $120 though... not so sure.

The dolls you can definitely see the quality difference in their bodies, face and hair. There is no doubt when looking at an American Girl doll verse looking at and Our Generation or Journey's doll.
The accessories though, I do not find any difference. We bought the Our Generation Diner for a little over $100 and it's super cute. The american girl one was over $350. Ridiculous and really no need to splurge on that. I also find the clothes on par as well.

We have dolls from target and American Girl I have to say the AG dolls are made to last. Their hair is amazing you can brush it style it's over and over again. It's never gets that knotty messy look or feel. Also you can replace parts if you needed to. Their bodies are much more flexible too
My dh almost fell over the first time we took them to the AG store. I didn't tell him prices before hand because I knew his reaction would be horror . However the experience in the AG store is so fun. My girls loved it more than any theme park we have been to.

Re: My Generation or Journey Girl
My DD is only 3, and she has to My Generation dolls. She has not clue that they are any different than AG. She calls them her American Girl dolls. So for now, I'm good.
How will I justify spending $100+ on a doll when and if the time comes? Well, first, she'd have to still be playing with them when she's 6/7 years old. And second, my DS has XBOX and Wii. Those consoles weren't cheap, the games can get pricey, and we've spend hundreds on skylanders and disney infinity characters.
For now, we'll stick with My Gen, or maybe get one or two from TRU to mix it up.

My Generation or Journey Girl
I would get the Our Generation over Journey Girl. The JG ones have much sliimmer bodies than Our Generation, and even American Girl. So the knock off clothes don't fit as nice. I personally think the Walmart ones (My Life As) are SOO much cuter than Target's though. They have some really adorable ones!
As for the difference in OG and AG...the hair for sure! You can style it so much nicer, it lasts longer, and isn't glued on. The arms don't pop off, etc. Plus, it's adorable to take the AG dolls to the and hair salon in the AG store and you can't get knock off doll's hair done there.

Re: My Generation or Journey Girl
I think it's that my DD isn't very into dolls. She loves my little pony figures and shopkins and Barbies, but actual dolls like that, I have never seen her ask for or play with one.
So that is a ton of cash for a toy that doesn't do much.
The hair, I hear ya- If i buy synthetic hair extensions they are a rats nest in a few wears, I totally feel that!

They're supposed to be better quality, especially the hair. DD got an Our Generation doll last year and I'm giving her a full size AG doll for her birthday, so I'll have to let you know the differences. I'm sure she'll play with her AG and Our generation doll together. Any accessories she gets for her dolls will be from Target
You don't need to pay full price for AG. If you plan it, you can buy when there is a 20% promotion and you can sometimes get AG gift cards at Costco ($80 for $100). That's what I did when I bought my girls Bitty Twins, I got about 35% off.

Re: My Generation or Journey Girl
I bought DD a Target doll when she was ~4yo. Now, two years later she rarely plays with her. Sometimes, but very rarely. She much prefers Barbies, ponies, shopkins, like the other poster mentioned. I would definitely first buy the knockoff to see if she even is really interested before you spend the $$$.

My girls have the Target ones. I think the ones from Toys R Us were still double the price from Target. Like $60+ compared to $35

Re: My Generation or Journey Girl
MY 4 yr old DD has two of the My Generation Dolls she got as gifts and loves them. She has Anya and Kelly-Ann. Anya came with a whole bunch of accessories like earings, necklances, headbands and you can brush her hair easily. Kelly-Ann was a basic doll, she still loves them. She calls them her babies. She's very rough with them. I can never justify spending the $$ on an AG doll. My older step daughter has AG dolls played with them a little bit begged for all of the accessories and now they sit on a shelf and are ignored.

My Generation or Journey Girl
I just like the look of the our generation better than journey girl. We haven't tried Journey Girl. We got a Deluxe our generation doll - besides coming with some accessories, they are also softer and supposed to be more poseable than the regular doll.
