Questions for parents of girl scouts
What is the time commitment involved with joining girl scouts?
DD is in Kindergarten and I'm slightly interested in signing her up but all I could get out of the organizer was that there is a meeting once a month after school.
What else does your troop do outside of meetings? Is there stuff normally on weekends? Friday nights? Not to sound lazy, but she's only 6 and I have a 3 year old, we have soccer and I don't want to become one of those families with every minute of the week/weekend planned.
I was hoping this was a little more chill and fun but I really can't get a feel for it based on the emails that have been going out.

Re: Questions for parents of girl scouts
Ours really is just once a month, maybe twice on a rare month, and doesn't interfere with any other activities at all.

Questions for parents of girl scouts
My DD isn't old enough for GS but I was a scout and I had weekly meetings, weekend activities probably around once a month and two family trips per year, plus holiday and end of the year parties, an auction and I think two awards ceremonies each year. I remember spending a good amount of time with my troop. I suppose every troop is different though.
Some of my best childhood memories involve GS and I hope I can find a similar troop when my DD is older. It really is a wonderful organization.

Questions for parents of girl scouts
I am a leader for dd Last year and this year. She is in 1st right now. Last year and this ear we are meeting once a month for an hour after school on a Thursday. We plan everything for that time. We may do the camporee this year in May but that's only 1 saturday. I think it relly depends on the leaders. We don't want to do to much lol. I know the older they get the more they do

It really depends on the troop. Last year my Dds troop met weekly. We didn't do too many activities outside of the meetings. This year we are doing 3 meetings a month. It seems like there will be an additional activity every 6-8weeks. The girls are brownies now so they can do a bit more though. It's very laid back, you just do what you can do. My DD loves it.

Re: Questions for parents of girl scouts
This is entirely troop dependent. Our troop meets every other week typically and has since kindergarten. We also do a lot of other activities through the service unit or council. You don't *have* to participate in all of it. But, they do some fun things

Questions for parents of girl scouts
I'm a first time leader for my daughter's Daisy troop (Kindergarten). We are meeting every other week for an hour after school. So far, outside of the meetings, we have gone bowling with our association and are going to a halloween party. Some of the parents have told me that they are open to field trips, so we're going to try to plan a couple in the 2nd half of the year.

We try to do most troop activities during our meeting time. But there are some extra events that the Service Unit does that are on other days. Not every girl attends all those. Out of 16 girls, probably an average of 5 girls go to the extra events.
