800 number looking for info on a relative..Maybe a scam?
I don't answer 800 numbers but I just got a voicemail from someone looking for contact information about my DH's SIL.....So odd... We aren't close, I honestly dont even have her number...I can't fathom why or who would call me for that. Obviously, I am not calling back and do not intend to provide any such information. But has anyone else experienced this? Is it a scam? Like why would I ever provide a stranger on the phone with any kind of info. They didn't say what it was in reference too, just that they are looking for a way to contact her.

Could be a collection agency - I know I've gotten calls from them looking for a relative. They'll often contact any number that comes up associated with or related to the person they are looking for. Or, it could be scam. Either way, I wouldn't call back

Yup! I Googled the number and that's what popped up. Doesn't surprise me. Im not getting involved and glad I ignored the call.

Collection agency for sure - they are getting more creative. Once I had one call me saying that my name was put down as a contact for some loan for my sister's husband.
I legit haven't seen my sister in 25 years, we have no relationship, and I have never met or known her husband. They were very insistent that my sister or her husband gave my cell phone number and I told them, "She doesn't even know what my married name is and would never have this number, you people are bold face lying to me" and they swore they weren't and wanted to know if I could contact her, but wouldn't tell me what it was about. I used a few more choice words and hung up on them.
