A friend of mine knows a guy who will go into the dealership and negotiate the best price you got from them for an even better deal.
Apparently this is something becoming more popular but I just don't see how this works and how it would benefit the dealership.

It doesn't benefit the dealership, it benefits someone who would pay for this service. I guess some people would be willing to have someone else do the dirt work of the car buying process, but how much can you save once you pay someone to do this?

Pretty much what PP said. My DH hates going to dealers and negotiating so much that i can see him paying someone to do this for him. Not that he did, but I feel like there are people out there willing to pay for this kind of service so someone cashed in on that kwim?
This person isn't getting necessarily a "better" deal than you could get yourself, they are just dealing with the haggling etc

I know people that do this. The broker knows what type of car you want and approximately how much you want to pay. They take care of everything for you, finding the car, getting the financing and have the car delivered to you. I don't think it was very expensive but so worth the time and aggravation of dealing with car dealerships

Yes it is an auto broker.... My aunt referred one to me but we decided to get a car on our own. My aunt swears by her guy though.
