If so - were you able to get out of it? I hear they are very tough. Im not sure if its worth going to fight it because I would lose money by not working that day. Any insights from personal experience?

What's TVB? If it's the speed camera tickets then yes I've gotten them and just paid it. And try to drive slower.

If you got pulled over I'd definitely fight it, especially if you have a good record. If the judge finds you guilty he has discretion to reduce the speed amount which helps in the fine and in points, and therefore insurance. At least the judges in lower Manhattan do, which is where I work in the police dept. I don't have experience with the speed cameras though, so can't help there.

It's Traffic Violations Bureau - and it was a cop not a camera. From what I've read, TVB is all or nothing. They don't plea down or reduce at all.

I assume you mean cop? I got one in Queens about 3 years ago. I went to court because I think it was going to be 7 pts on my license. The judge lessened the points and the fine. They won't dismiss it though.

Oops sorry, yes, I fixed the typo. The offense date was 20 months ago so Im even wondering if the cop will show up.

Cops rarely show up. I'd go to court. Even if the cop shows they'll probably reduce it, so worthwhile either way.

How was it so long ago??? My first court date got postponed, by the court, not me, Ended up being 9 months later. I figured no way was the officer going to be there. Well, you guessed it,he was! I couldn't believe it! Which court do you have to go to? If you are getting points on your license, I say go. It's a pain, but worth it if they will reduce them.

I did. Was "clocked" 63 in a 45 on the LIE. I went to the court, the cop showed up, the judge asked for my evidence (I tried to explain that the last sign I saw was not 45) he wanted pics of the sign (how could I take pics while driving) and it was not reduced at all. Maybe I got unlucky but it was a terrible experience. Def wasn't worth going for me.

Google street view

Or drive back and pull over to get the sign.

Or have somebody else drive and video it.

Re: Has anyone ever gotten a Queens TVB speeding ticket?

It was that long ago because the first scheduled hearing date was 9 months after the ticket. Then the court postponed that for 6 months. Then I did my one postponement for 6 months. So yes even though there will be points on my license, they wont count towards anything really since its been more than 18 months.

There's no guarantee that the judge will do anything, but I would go because the number of points and or amount of the fine may be reduced. Just the chance of everything being reduced would be worth it to me.

This!

My husband had gotten a ticket and the lawyer told him to suck it up and pay for it - Queens is VERY tough and if you show up to fight it, the judge will tack on court costs too.

Not true, as I have said above. I received a speeding ticket in Queens, and had both points and fines reduced. depends on your judge.

Ah, okay, i see. Well if the points aren't going to be an issue, then you may not want to bother. Just pay the fine.
