will this affect my car insurance cost UPDATED
So I'm an idiot and clearly a bad driver. I went to pull into my driveway (narrow 2 car), my husbands truck was on the right side and there is a retaining wall on the left side, I was making a right into my driveway to park on the left side. I did not cut the wheel enough and came in on an angle, that I not only hit the front corner of my car on the retaining wall but also my passenger side rear on my husbands truck. I'm a complete idiot, I know.
So my front end is scuffed, not terribly but I don't know if thats fixable or if I need a whole new bumper and my back side end has a dent and some buffing (not sure what that needs.)
I'm sick to my stomach over this. Hubby has not been home to see the car yet, hes going to kill me.
Update: I went to my collision place. I'm going to go through insurance, it's going to be closer to $2000 in damage.

Awe that stinks - it may effect your insurance. Do you have to get the car fixed? Is it a lease?

Re: will this effect my car insurance cost
Yes if you put a claim in with your auto insurer, it will affect future rates. My suggestion is to pay for repairs out of pocket, local junkyards can fix and buff out the scratches. Something similar happened to me in Manhattan when I made a short turn and lower right side fender bumped the outer railing of a box truck- paid about $600 to one of those auto places in College Point Queens for new fender.
BTW it's spelled Affect, not Effect.

Most policies have a 1 accident forgiveness, so it would not affect your rates, if this is your first (and only) accident.
Personally, I'd probably forget about a scuffed bumper.

Was that necessary? It could have been an auto correct.

Re: will this affect my car insurance cost
Not necessarily. I got in an accident a few years ago- TOTALLY my fault. Hit another woman, she had damage, I had damage.
My rates didn't go up at all.
Many policies have accident forgiveness for 1 claim.

You could pay OOP and not go through insurance so the rates don't go up.

I work in auto insurance. The answer is maybe. It depends on the amount of the damage. If the damamges are less than 2K in NYS you shouldn't have a surcharge. The way your company underwrites & whether you have any accident forgiveness or good driver discounts come into play too.

If it's minor damage and inexpensive to fix I'd probably just pay OOP and forget tapping my insurance. I'd rather "save" my accident forgiveness in case I get into a real accident, god forbid.

Agreed. I wouldn't go through insurance.
Don't beat yourself up too much- it sucks, but it happens!

Re: will this affect my car insurance cost
I would pay out of pocket since there is no other party. If you get a pass, I would save it for later.
I have hit both my husband's car and BIL's parked cars! Thank goodness for back up cameras. My next car I am going to get a 360 camera.
