Re: First world problems this Monday morning
My kid and her BFF both had lice over the weekend. She was complaining till I told her that it could have been scurvy and she doesn't have to walk five miles to get fresh water. Perspective.

Re: First world problems this Monday morning
I just finished filling out forms for my uncle's supplemental prescription coverage.. they want to charge him $538 per year. He gets only $6k per year from social security, his monthly care is about $6k, he currently has no prescription coverage at all but his monthly insulin supply is about $2k per month out of pocket. Sometimes first world problems are life or death issues.

i am not sure what type of insulin he is on but walmart has a contract with Novalin insulin supplier and we pay $25 a bottle for insulin as opposed to $146.

Humalog - well over $1k without insurance. I attempted to purchase it for him and they got it down to $1,035 with discount cards. I opted not to buy it. My kids need to eat. He's about to run out of his Lantus too.

First world problems this Monday morning
I have a 2 day meeting in the city later this week and will be staying overnight. A few issues: 1) If I take the later train in, I will probably JUST make it to the start of the informal "pre-meeting", but if I take the earlier train, I'll be close to an hour early. Decisions, decisions. and 2) My bosses secretary "forgot" to book me into the hotel everyone else is staying at (I work off site from the main office), so now I am booked at a hotel about 10 blocks away. She claimed I never confirmed that I was going (and was pretty snotty about it), but I did, so I forwarded her the email I had sent her back in mid-August and haven't heard a peep. So, do I make a stink and request another hotel that is closer but not the normal hotel chain that they use (but is the same price), or just suck it up and maybe be glad that I am away from all of the work people? Just aggravated because they always "forget" to include me in things because I am not in their office very day.

This is way more important that a "first world problem". So sorry you and your uncle have to deal with this. Good luck

I'm so sorry. This is an American problem. There is no reason needed prescriptions should cost anything and if they need to charge the price should be in line with income.

I know it is, but this is absolutely an American problem so i wanted to share.
I get violent when people start talking crap about how socialized medicine is bad and how people don't want to pay for people who don't work. Everyone wants to hate on the poor. No one ever stops to consider that some - most - of these people have worked their entire lives.
This is a man who went to Harvard.

Re: First world problems this Monday morning
i already complained about my monday morning in another thread... so here, i will share about last night.
went to the county fair, SO used to work on the fairgrounds and still has connections.
my first world problem was that the FREE food they gave us did not meet my expectations after binge-watching too many episodes of "carnival eats" on tv. that followed by the FREE margarita was yucky. that followed by being so tired walking all night that i feel asleep on the couch and overslept this morning because i didn't hear my alarm in the bedroom.

Have you applied for Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage ? It's a NYS program.

Have you tried calling direct to the manufacturer of the drug? I know people who have done that and gotten a lot knocked off the prices.
