How would you handle this?

Last September I had someone come and power wash my house. I got the recommendation from someone on a mom's group. They did a great job. I wasn't home when they did the job so I left the payment for them in an agreed upon place.

Fast forward to two weeks ago. I reached out to the same company to power wash my house and clean the gutters. I had a good experience with them so I wanted them for the job again. On the day they came to my house I received a phone call from the guy's wife saying the machine broke down and he was going to have to get it fixed. She was very apologetic and she told me she'd reach out when the machine was fixed. Here's the kicker, he took the payment for the job.

Ever since then I've been getting the run around from them. At first I was trying to just find out when they were going to complete the job. I'm selling my house so I need this done asap. Now I just want my money back. I really don't want to have to sue these people. I've been calling them and texting them with no response. Initially I was getting texts back now that has completely stopped. I'm out $425 and I'm really pissed. What else can I do???

Wow, that's pretty shady that he took the $ without doing the work. Can you go see them in person?

They have no social media. I handled the whole transaction with the wife through her personal FB.

Same thing happened to my parents but with a pool company. Took $600 for a pump and then disappeared. I blasted the wife all over FB and eventually tracked down the husband, went to his house, and got the part so my husband could install it.

Blast the wife - tag her, share her, I even found her in on of the mom groups and blasted her there. They were complete trash but in the end I won.

I would blast them all over FB, even in that mom's group. Word will get back to them, and hopefully they will pay up. Scummy!

Was it over FB private message? If it was, and you have the messages saved, you at least have proof of the conversations and the fact that they took the money.

Re: How would you handle this?

That really stinks, I'd definitely report to BBB or call and tell them you want a refund.

FWIW, My DH and I just spent the last 2 weekends power-washing our house and decks. DH has a ton of tools in the garage for home projects like this. My DH would be happy to power-wash your house for 1/2 of what you paid. Chat Icon

Yes, it was over FB private message and through text. I actually have a text from her saying that she feels terrible that they have my money and didn't complete the job yet. Chat Icon Chat Icon

What trash. They took the money and magically the machine was broken.

Watch - every excuse in the book is going to come your way if they haven't already.

WOW....I was going to say since it was cash it would be your word against theirs. But since you have this message, I would tell her they have one last chance before you take it to social media with all the messages attached.
Some business they're running there.
Did you do a google search on them to see if they have complaints against them?

Good Luck!

I did. One complaint on BBB from a few years ago. They don't have a website and no social media presence. I really picked a winner.

I'd be filing a police report and headed to small claims.

Re: How would you handle this?

Copy and paste that reply to the wife's FB and in the group where you were first referred. AND on your page. Keep on doing it until they answer you.
