Has anyone been following the news? 2 girls murdered last week, 2 remains of high school kids found this week and they just found more remains. This is so sad.

Yes. This is where I graduated High School
My BFF and godson still live there. He just turned 13 and she is sick over all this. Its terrible to see whats happening there.
The cops are now searching the woods of Piligram State. Right now they arent saying why, but I would.assume to see if they find more bodies

It's horrible. Not the greatest of areas to begin with, but with the gangs taking over it's magnified. I read yesterday they think these recent bodies/deaths are MS-13 related. The concern now is that the blood and crips will now start random shootings to one up the MS-13. Very scary.

Yes, my friend (and sitter) is in the Brentwood area. They say it's gang related and initiations. It's so bad kids are staying home from school. Scary.

Scary how this happened in LI and this is the first post on LIF. I wonder if we are getting immune to this kind of tragedy? I have been watching all of the updates, and it is like they have no information and I am sure it is killing the parents. Its such a sad tragic story.

They have an MS13 member in custody per the news but they aren't saying if he is being held in conjunction with the murders.
I never play the race card but dh and I were just saying its rediculous how two high school students disappeared months ago and there was no news coverage. They just happened to find the remains because of heightened security. A girl is missing from Bay Shore HS and again there is no news coverage.

So it appears that no-one seems to care because these people are not white! My God, I have been so concerned for these girls, because they are so young and were killed in such a brutal manner. Everyone was so upset about Kartina Vetrano, which was just as heartbreaking, but yet appears there is less concern for these young people. Who cares where they are from or what race they are or even if it was gang violence Their young lives were taken away too soon. So sad!

The people downstairs from me are the family of the second skeleton found. To hear the mom's cries/screams, I will never ever forget it. How horribly tragic. I went to BHS and am looking into starting a program where alums can link up with current students (kinda like big brothers/big sisters?). I'm so tired of this... literally emotionally exhausted this week.

At the time, they were briefly on the news (the two boys who were missing) but police didn't suspect foul play for some reason (family of one was upset he was being classified as runaway and kept insisting he wasn't). Also, I have a feeling who ever is in custody is giving up all of this info. They are digging/searching in very specific spots.

That's so sad.
I think your idea sounds fantastic and I hope the district makes it happen. I'm sure a positive,relatable role model would make a difference for some of these kids.
I don't remember hearing about the missing boys which is sad. Especially the one who was only 15.

Not comparing just stating what seems to be obvious...I am equally saddened by all of the deaths, as they are all so heartbreaking. It just seems that if there are young people being murdered in LI, then it should have been more headline news, instead of hearing about these additional death after the deaths of the 2 young girls. How come we did not know about this before? Even if they thought they were runaways, we should have been informed as that was just a suspicion. Young lives being taken in a place we all call home. Very sad.

There are plenty of kids I see on FB that are missing. People always asking to share the post to help find someone and I don't recall seeing 98% of them on the news.
I really don't think it has anything to do with race. Just that they are considered runaways. Not saying it's right.
As for these cases. As I said earlier, this is where I went to school. Jr & HS. So many of my FB friends are from the area and have been discussing this. Some of them even teach at the school. It's being discussed. But you're right not at the level on the news it should be.
And I can tell you a lot of people are afraid to talk openly since it's likely MS13 related and they need to still live in the neighborhood. My BFF who still lives there is having anxiety over this. Especially after a student that was walking to school had a car pull up to him, take a light blue shirt from him that he was carrying and burn it right there on the spot. And told him to never wear that color again. Letters are going out to the parents reminding their kids not to wear colors that are associated with gangs. It's frightening living in the area right now. And I don't blame anyone who doesn't want to openly discuss this.

MS-13 has been taking over that area for years, slowly but surely. I graduated from Brentwood in 97 and it wasn't nearly as bad. Over the last 10 years it has gotten worse and and worse.
It's absolutely terrifying to see the violence going on and how it has the community living in fear, but honestly, it is nothing new to me. Just being more noticed and in the news.

Yes and one of them was mentioned to having been in a fight with someone who was ms-13 affiliated in the week prior but no confirmation on whether she was or wasn't. Even she was, the community failed them.

Yeah, I graduated in 07 and at that time, there had been a shooting on my block (wrong place, wrong time kind of thing). There was outrage and blablabla but here we are, almost 10 years later. I am so upset over this!

It is so scary. This gang is known to be extremely ruthless, even killing their own family when needed. Ugh. It's just a horrible cycle that goes around and around. I'm hoping they have enough evidence to at least put some of them away. Someone is chirping for sure.

So sad a coworker of mine lives in Brentwood. She loves her block and neighbors but has 2 young children in elementary school and at this point is terrified to leave her house. So much so she hasn't been to work in a week and called in sick because she's so beside herself. I feel awful for her, the community and all families affected including the family in bayshore. It's just so sad

Did you see today (last night) a woman was exiting the Sagtikos in Brentwood, was boxed in by cars to force her off the road. The car was shot at and they were able to steal her wallet and other items.
I have a vendor in Bayshore, closer to Brentwood and I drive up through Brentwood to get back to the Sagtikos.......not anymore.

Can you post the article? My friend who Iives there told me about it, but she said there were so many stories going around she didn't know what was true or rumor
