Nursing

Have been nursing and pumping like once or twice a day. How do I balance both? Please give me some suggestions don't know if I should follow a schedule or only give the bottle in the middle of the night. Any tips?!

Re: Nursing

Ugh, it's so hard in the beginning. I could never find time to pump and nurse and was so afraid I wouldn't have enough to give DD once I got back to work. I'd try to pump about 1/2 hour after DD nursed, but she's not a napper so it was difficult. I was able to build up a little stash that way though. Then once she started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks it was easier. I still wake up every night at 1:00 AM to pump. It sucks, but I get a lot and it keeps my supply up. I missed two night in a row and noticed a significant dip in my supply so then I pumped like a maniac to get it back up.

Re: Nursing

While on maternity leave I nursed exclusively, but would pump once a day from roughly 6 weeks on at around 10am. Basically once LO went down for her first nap of the morning, I would pump. I have now been back at work for 2 months and have barely had to dip into it. Virtually every day I am able to pump at work the amount she needs. The stash has been helpful for just getting out ahead of late work nights or other things like that, but it has been much easier than I thought. She does basically drink what I pump (roughly 12 oz. / day at daycare) and I nurse her exclusively when she's not at daycare.

This would be my suggestion. Do 1 pump session a day while home on leave, and do it right when baby falls asleep after nursing sometime in the morning.

Nursing

I pumped right after my DS' first nursing session of the day. It was honestly a waste of my time. I never used any of the pumped milk from my maternity leave. I actually donated 150-200 ounces to another mom.
