overheard a conversation... politics
wow. just wow.
i won't say who is supporting which candidate, but i just CONTINUE to be genuinely surprised at the things people are saying about the candidates and about conspiracies and about how they KNOW these things for a fact.
until about two minutes ago, i would have said that the two people i just overheard speaking were intelligent. now, i don't know. yikes.
again, it's not a matter of which side you want to win, it's the level of REAL bull sh!t.
how is a PLUMBER who didn't graduate high school going to KNOW FOR A FACT what conspiracy the government, the GOP, or the DNC are cooking up??!! and then the other guy... how is a retired salesman going to KNOW FOR A FACT different conspiracies??!!
there are moments that i feel that Allen Funt is going to come out from behind a cubicle partition and tell me to look into the ficus.

I think you can blame a lot on social media. People see things on FB, etc, and accept them as fact, and report without bothering to check to see if what they are about to pass on is true.
Also, in this election, the media failed us. Totally. There was so much fawning over two candidates and the rest had to fight to share their message, and even though I didn't care for most of them  it was wrong. More and more I feel like the media decided who was going to be nominated by the major parties.

I think it's a mix of many different factors - you have the media which skews every single thing someone says or does, people who only choose to hear one side, people who willfully ignore real facts, people who are gullible, and people who not swayed by the ******** and can see through it.

I have a couple of friends on FB that are medically diagnosing Hillary Clinton with various ailments. I really want to ask them if they got the M.D.s (i.e. "media doctors") at FU (Facebook University).

It amazes me how many nutjobs legitimately think Hillary Clinton has a body double, that 9/11 was an "inside job", that men never really landed on the moon, and the list goes on and on. It scares me how ignorant some of our electorate is.

I can totally see why people fall for conspiracy theories - and some are actually VERY compelling - but I think most of them are bunk. I think we are giving our government a lot more credit than they deserve, because if we start believing these theories, it's a downward spiral!

OMG - I had a conversation with someone over the summer that believes this. He told me that it was a government set up and that it really never happened.
I looked him dead in the face and told him to shut up and tell that to the 26 families who lost their child. I told him we needed to end this conversation right now or I was going to lose my shit on him.
Mind you, this is the first time I had ever met this guy.
I was disgusted!

Yep I told a story on another thread of a wacko who actually got fired from my company for spewing his conspiracy theory about 9/11 non stop . To customers, vendors, other employees that he just met.
People who had lost loved ones.
People who asked him to please stop, it wasn't the appropriate time or place for it.
About how the planes were empty and nobody died on the planes. The gov't flew the planes by remotely into the buildings and the buildings were loaded with explosives by the gov't/
He was spoken to several times, but kept it up.
He finally got let go.
People are fuking nuts and highly offensive.
It makes me sick.
