What to do with clothes?

My MIL, while very generous, is terrible at buying clothes for my kids. They're always the wrong size because, I believe, she buys what's on sale, whatever the size may be. So DD2 turned 1 last week. She's currently in size 12m. My MIL was very excited to buy her clothes for our cruise which is 6 months away when Dd2 will be 18 months old. We've told her time and time again what size the baby is wearing. So mil bought mostly 12m- all summer clothes- for the purpose of wearing them on our cruise in March. I would have been fine with exchanging them for 18m but 1. She cut off all of the tags!! Literally no tags on any of the clothes. 2. Summer stuff is pretty much gone so I can't just buy the same outfit in the bigger size.

So what do i do?

Oh and while most of them are 12m, she did throw in some 18m, 24m, and even a couple of 2T. Chat Icon

A few months ago, she bought DD2, size 18m to wear now so I'm not sure why she would buy 12m to wear 6 months from now.

My MIL used to cut the tags off clothes too. I couldn't return or exchange anything. I ended up donating and asking her to please leave the tags on and even give me gift receipts.

My MIL used to do this to me all the time! My friends got so
many brand new clothes (all with the tags off) for the same reason. My DH finally told her, thanks mom, we'll be sure to pass them along to our friends. And she was like Chat Icon and he said they'll never fit in them so we can't return them bc tags or off so either in the garbage or to a friend they go. She stopped doing it.

We would never throw them away of course!!! He just said it to his mom to illustrate the point that our kids will never be able to wear say a 2t summer outfit when it is fall and they are wearing 2t now. My MIL is very thick headed and even though we told her a bunch that they were too small until he said this, she finally got it.

OMG sounds like my mom! She works right near a department store and goes there every at lunchtime and will pick up stuff for my kids in sizes they already are, or a smaller size and will say 'it looks big!' and she refuses to return when I ask her to.

Honestly I would just donate them. Right now I am just putting stuff they can't wear in bins and saving them should my brother and his fiancee have kids in the future, but if not I would probably just donate them.

Re: What to do with clothes?

I'm just so confused as to why anyone would cut the tags off an item they are giving to someone else.
That is sooooo strange to me.

I can see taking the price off, but the whole tag???

people are stupid lol. They don't want you returning stuff or seeing how much they spent. It's stupid. My mom used to do that. My MIL never listens to the size. I've wasted a lot of clothes. My mother also buys cheap clothes that I hate the material of. things get donated. but i came down on hard of everyone and now get recipets after yelling at people lol

I agree. My friend did the same thing when she gave something to my daughter. I thought it was so odd that there were no tags.

I would say I love and appreciate all the clothes you buy for the children, however most of it is the wrong size and since you cut the tags off I can't exchange and am forced to donate. Can you please keep the tags on w receipts in case exchanges are needed? Otherwise unfortunately I have to donate it all which is a shame.
