Update! Suffolk County Evacuations!
So Dh and I are sitting here watching t.v and this red ticker is going across saying effective immediately suffolk county has an immediate evacuation!!
Hmmmmm...we are basically sitting here watching this..
Anyone else seeing this across their T.V screen and carrying on about their business like we are?
UPdate = they are now saying to disregard - this is just a voluntary evacuation of Fire island.

YES! Yet no news channels are reporting anything. Totally freaked me out. Can't find anything on line either, except for voluntairy evacuation of fire island.

I just put on fios1 and the ticker said state of emergency declared in Suffolk in preparation for the storm.

I know its SO weird...but because our cell phones aren't going of we are just sitting here....I wonder was it sent out in error? Channel 12 is carrying on as normal so figure it must be okay.

Suffolk County Evacuations!
I saw it on my TV too. You would think that the communication would be a little better than just saying Suffolk County needs to evacuate. I think it is just for Fire Island and maybe flood zones on the South Shore. They said they are expecting major flooding.

Well someone in the Town's Crisis Management department is going to be in big trouble lol. To send out an evacuation message with no clear direction and then sending another to disregard is a huge blunder.

There is a voluntary evacuation of Fire Island. I think we got an alert bc we share a zip code. I'm sure it's precautionary because it's packed there this weekend and getting everyone out if something happens is going to be a nightmare!

Agreed! We got an alert on our cell phones. My 73 year old mother called me in tears, totally panicked about this "evacuation!" It took me a while to calm her down.

You gotta think...if they didn't evacuate during Sandy why would they now?
Short of a nuclear attack Long island is never getting evacuated. And even then....we'd all.die on the LIE.
It's pretty much logistically impossible .

Yep. Nassau county is within the 50 mile radius of Indian point. In the event of a melt down when winds blow easterly all of LI is screwed. One of the reasons we are leaving.

This was one of the big reasons that the Shoreham nuclear plant finally got shut down.
