crafting/gift question
DS is single and living in the barracks.
before he became a Marine, we had discussed my making him a quilt. a few weeks ago, i bought a new-to-me sewing machine... and i'm itching to make something.
my question is... since DS is single and living with a roommate, should i make him a twin-sized quilt or should i use the time and money i'll be investing in this project to make him a larger quilt so it will have a longer useful life?

I would make the investment into making him a larger quilt- regardless of marital status few adults sleep in a twin bed- he will not live in the barracks forever.

Larger! A large quilt will always be useful, even with a twin bed.

Not to be Debbie Downer or anything...
But did you check with him recently to see if he still wants it or could use it at that time? My nephew is in the service and he doesn't want my sister to send anything that would make him stick out. Having a quilt Mommy made on his bed may not be the best.

Crafter/quilter myself go with the larger one. He will get more use of it in the future. Homemade gifts are the best

not debbie downer... legit question.
where he is now, it's more like a dorm-type setting where he can make it his own. his roommate has a huge puerto rico flag on his side of the room lol.
they do need to meet cleanliness standards... they get inspected weekly, but they can have personal stuff.
yes, he and i have spoken about it. he currently has a crocheted blanket on his bed that my mom made for him years ago... he loves it for his room because it's patriotic in color scheme. plus, the quilt he'd like me to make will be very simple and masculine.

i completely agree!! and he's the best person to make stuff for. the knit socks i make him get worn until they literally fall apart around his feet. lol
