I wished someone told me I want going to overfeeding him. I did formula and i listened to everything I read and only fed him 3-4oz but he could have had so much more. He was low on weight at his check up so i fed him until he was done. He gained the weight and was so happy. I clearly starved him lol.

You will sleep again.
Baby carriers are your best friend.
Get a good noise machine or use a noise machine app. If baby still won't sleep try rocking them in the bathroom with the fan on. (That's the only thing that settled my DD!)
You CANT spoil a newborn. Hold and love that baby up because it goes by way too fast.
When people give you advice, smile and nod, then do your own thing.

The day after I had my twins,in the hospital I just fed my son. He took 2 oz. burped put him down. He was screaming. Screaming

Nurse comes in and says all ok. I aid he just ate. I think he wants more. She's all he can't be hungry. You can't feed him more etc

He's crying crying. Crying. I'm now crying. Just had a c section. 2 babies to care for. Different nurse comes back in I say the same thing. She opens the bottle and says here. Here wants more. He took another ounce and passed right out

It's when I realized there are no rules and everything can be different do every kid

Newborn days are all about survival! You will be tired and not be able to find time to shower. But it will pass and you'll look back on those times fondly. When you're in the thick of it, though? Just live minute-to-minute, hour-to-hour and day-to-day. Whatever gets you through the day with your sanity!

And my favorite saying that got me through it all was repeating "this too shall pass"!

Re: Newborn

As some others mentioned-

you will sleep again! It does end although sometimes it seems like it never will.

And snuggle snuggle snuggle that baby because they will be big in the blink of an eye.

And I wish someone had warned me to always have a clean diaper at the ready when changing. The number of times I've turned to get the diaper and they've peed and/or pooped right on the table, ugh! Cover those parts asap! Chat Icon

Never wake a sleeping baby!

I wish I had listened to this! With my first, I woke her every 3-4 hours to eat per the pediatrician. I was just exhausted. I remember the first night she slept through for 6 hours, I was like a human again! With my second, there was NO overnight waking.

Don't be hard on yourself. The beginning is really tough. If the house is messy and the laundry piles up, who cares. Do take out if you aren't up to cooking.

Let people help as much or as little as you want. I never wanted visitors immediately after returning home. DH's family is out of state and I didn't let anyone come until at least the second week we were home. I needed that initial time just being us and adjusting.

If you want to breastfeed I would have the lactation consultant meet me either at the hospital or as soon as you get home. I supplemented day 2 and kicked myself for it. Dd is perfect but I only made it to 6 months because I didn't know what the hell I was doing.

Repeating above feed till full, snuggle as much as possible, do not wake a sleeping baby, the baby's day/night confusion will correct itself. Have a stocked baby emergency kit in your and dh's car with a couple of diapers, wipes, clothes for you and baby.

Someone told me that around 3 weeks post partum, everything will get "better". My son didn't sleep at that point, but I felt A LOT better!

I have 3, my newest being 5 months old. All babies are different so my only advice is to try and have help in the first weeks or even first month. It's very rough if you have a baby that doesn't sleep well, I've had 3 of those Chat Icon I also have the Lillebaby carrier, which the baby really likes. Everything else , he hates Chat Icon
