Furniture dilemma
DD is almost 2 and a half, and DS is 4 months. Right now, we only have cribs in each of their rooms. We didn't get baby furniture, because we do want to buy really small furniture only have to re-buy more when they got older. So now, I started looking at furniture for my daughter, and it's all either really expensive or really crappy.
We found a set that we love at Casco kids in Centereach. Unfortunately, it's something like $2500. We didn't want to go with Bob's, because it got so many bad reviews on here and online. We didn't like anything at IKEA. We found a put it together yourself set at Amazon, but we got the nightstand, and it's really cheap and won't last. The laminate is partly off right out-of-the-box and the corners are super sharp. No Bueno.
DH found one at target, rated so-so, but it's already put together. You just have to put the legs on. I think the target set would run about $1500. He said the frame is real wood, but the drawers might not be.
Would you buy the more expensive set made of wood hoping that it would last her entire childhood and teenage years? It's girly but not really frilly or babyish. White furniture. Or buy the cheaper set that's part wood with eh reviews, knowing it will only last a few years?
We also have to get DS something in a few years too. We have the money, but it will dip into savings, and that makes me nervous. But I also don't want to get them junk that rambunctious toddlers can destroy easily. WWYD?

We got furniture from pottery barn kids and used coupons. It was made of real wood and is dovetail joined.

Re: Furniture dilemma
have you tried bedroom source? theres one on glen cove road. they have a wide variety of super expensive stuff to middle of the road. i also kind of feel like i would rather spend a little more on stuff since they will likely use it for 15 + years

Id go with the highest quality in your budget. Also, have you considered Craigslist? You'd be surprised at some of the quality stuff people get rid of.

Furniture dilemma
We bought furniture that DD can grow into. A neutral wood so she can take it with her. I used my bedroom dresser until I got married. I would get the best you can afford. It's worth the investment in the long run.

Re: Furniture dilemma
Can you convert the crib to a toddler bed? DS who is 6 is just getting too big for the crib mattress. DD is 4.5 and fits well in it! You can get a dresser from the floor models at a baby store for the same price as Bobs ($150-200)& it will be better quality (or look second hand). That will buy you time/money to look for a better set for more years.

This. I was gonna recommend pottery barn too.
Also u might want to check if ur crib can convert in a full size bed. DS's crib convert to a toddler bed, and also in a full size bed. U do need a conversion kit for that though.

Re: Furniture dilemma
For me personally I wouldn’t spend a lot on furniture. I grew up with the same bedroom set until I got married. I wanted to change things and I was always told I couldn’t because the set cost so much money and why would you want to change anything, its good wood! Heck they even wanted me to take it after I got married.
For my kids I have inexpensive items knowing when they get older their tastes will change and want something else.

This. We spent a frightening amount of $ on DD's furniture but it is absolutely gorgeous. She will not see new furniture until she buys it herself.

Re: Furniture dilemma
I have gone both ways. For DD1 we got super fancy, all wood Natart furniture - a crib that converts into a full size headboard, a 6-drawer dresser, and a gorgeous armoire.
For my twins we went to IKEA and got 2 cribs, four cabinets that mount to the walls (upper and lower), and a changing table.
I love DD1's furniture. It is beautiful. Hush close drawers, gorgeous headboard, plenty of space for her clothes. But my house is really small and now I am "stuck" with this furniture.
In a lot of ways I prefer the IKEA furniture bc as a previous poster said you can change it up so easily and you don't have to worry about your kids destroying it. I have always found ikea quality to be much better than they typical target or Amazon items. And then you can add and remove pieces as needed. I have found that as each kid gets older your storage needs change.
Good luck with your decision!

Furniture dilemma
I say look at craigslist and IKEA. I think spending that kind of money on the kids furniture is a waste. But what do I know, there isn't any piece or set of furniture in my house that costs as much as the cheap set that the OP is considering.
Our mattress and boxspring cost that, but the furniture of the bedroom set is from IKEA for probably a grand total of $6-800. I'd love to have a nice bedroom set and nice dining and living room sets, but the money gets spent elsewhere.
My son actually has the nicest furniture. We bought a crib and dresser off of craigslist, spent a total of $400 on stuff that cost new around $2K
my parents got me a nice dresser when I was very young in the 80s. I did leave it at my parents house when I bought my house. I thought it was hideous since my teens and got guilting from them that I didn't take it with me to my new house

Re: Furniture dilemma
We invested in both of the kids' furniture. I got two beautiful sets from Buy Buy Baby that will last them forever. I was permitted to use coupons so that saved me a pretty penny. I think my first son's entire set (convertible crib with bed rails for later, tall dresser, short/wide dresser with hutch) came to around $1,600 and my other guy's was about $1800 but I will never have to buy them furniture again.

Re: Furniture dilemma
We just spent a lot of money on my son's forever furniture but he is 6. I am not sure I would have done that at 2 because I would have been worried about how even good furniture would have held up for more than 15 years of heavy use.
When I was about 12 we redid my room and I got all new stuff (although nothing crazy expensive.)
I feel like a girl would care more than a boy, too.
I would lean towards don't break the bank and keep looking for more middle of the road.
