Babysitter

I'm curious what you would do..

We have/had a sitter we would use for some Sat mornings. I had her scheduled to work 8-12. The night before I asked if she could do 8:30-12:30 and mentioned it was no big deal if she couldn't, and that 8-12 would still work. She confirmed back that it was ok.

That morning my kids are so excited for her to come over. She was 5 min late so I texted her twice to see if she was on her way. No response. At 8:40 I tried calling and she didn't answer.

The kids happened to be dressed already so I took them with me to work. I had a client already waiting and had to leave.

We used her for a couple of years. She was never my favorite sitter but the kids really liked her. She's 21. She said she had a meeting at work and didn't have her phone. I'm scratching my head here because 12 hrs prior she was supposed to be here at 8.

I can totally understand something coming up and running late. I totally felt like she blew us off because of her total unresponsiveness. I guess it's one of my pet peeves. Would you give her another chance or no? I'm not, just because I have no patience for that, but I'm curious what you would do.

If this was her first time doing something like this, I'd probably give her a second chance. If it happened again I would stop using her and nicely tell her why. At 21, it could be a really valuable lesson in responsibility.

Re: Babysitter

This was the first time she was late. Like I said though, I don't even mind so much that she was late. It's the lack of judgment/common sense to text or call. She didn't say she over slept. What if she was picking them up from the bus stop? She also does that for us too.

She had a few other instances where I questioned her common sense. For example, a pipe in my kitchen leaked and there was a huge puddle on my floor. No way you could miss it, she had just been in there doing the dishes(which is great!). I came home, we chatted for 15 minutes, not once did she mention a flood. I walk into the kitchen and was like wtf??

I wouldn't use her again. I think it's a serious issue that not only didn't she show up, but she didn't even text you to let you know. It shows poor judgement IMO, and I'm sure it was a major problem for you having to go to work.
