Pumping moms

Anyone pump only 4 times a day and have their supply maintain? Baby is 5m old, right now I pump 5x/day- When I wake up, 10, 2, 5 and 9 but the 5pm kills me as its right in the middle of making dinner and I am constantly forgetting it! I was hoping to change it to-wake up, 1030, 4 and 9 but am nervous about my supply going down. Anyone with experience? Thanks!

Pumping moms

At that age (at minimum), I pumped at 5:30 am, nurse at 6 am, pump at 9 am and 12 pm, nurse at 4pm and 7pm - my DS was insatiable though.... If you are producing enough with 4 pump sessions, you can probably do it, but like you I would be concerned about supply issue. 5 months is still very young. If anything, I would just move one of the sessions to 4 (is possible) and then it doesn't interfere with making dinner.

Re: Pumping moms

Are you exclusively pumping? DD will be 5 months on Friday and my general schedule (on work days) is this:

6:30-7am: Nurse
10:00am: Pump
1:00pm: Pump
3:30pm: Pump
6:00pm: Nurse
10:30pm: Nurse

I generally pump about 4 oz per pump session.

Yes im exclusively pumping now, I make about 35-40oz now and he drinks about 30 a day. I have a huge freezer stash as of right now too so I am hoping possibly going down to 4 I will maintain what I am producing now by who knows. I think I am going to try it out and see what happens and if not go back to 5x/day

Re: Pumping moms

It sounds like you'll probably be okay. Maybe if you do need to add it back in you could add in another pre-bed session, or do another one during the work day and just not pump between 4:30 and 9 to maximize time around the busy dinner period?

Re: Pumping moms

Are you nursing as well? I do both...this is my schedule:

7:30am - nurse
10:30am - pump
1:30pm - pump
4:30pm - pump
7:30pm - nurse
10:30pm - pump
Then she wakes once in the middle of the night and nurses once - usually around 3:30/4am.

This maintains my supply and I am usually able to get about 15-18ounces a day extra with the pumps.

Hope this helps a little....
