what do i do? school related
my DD is starting kindergarten in september. we live in queens and our zoned school has no before or after care. the earliest i can drop her off is 750 and pick up is 220. i am a teacher and cannot do either of those times. ive tried everything i can to get her into other local schools that do provide before or after care but no luck.
I'm asking everyone i know about finding a person take her and pick her up (i would need three days a week) but so far its turned up nothing. i know i can do care.com but that just scares me to death.
i honestly feel so helpless and down about this because i have no idea what to do. my parents can do it twice a week when they watch my 3 year old but can't commit to five days.
what is up with these schools offering nothing to help working parents? what do other people do??
i want to cry. thanks for reading. any suggestions and advice are greatly appreciated.

What part of Queens are you in? Does your zoned school have a breakfast program you can drop your daughter off at? I'm also a teacher in Queens and my daughter goes to FastTrac/Clover Prep afterschool. They pick her up from school and do homework with her and I pick her up at 6pm.

Re: what do i do? school related
I am in Queens also. That was my biggest fear- figuring out before and after care for my kids. My twins are also entering kindergarten this year. All schools have free breakfast. The doors open at their school for breakfast at 7:30. When I went to kindergarten orientation, I asked about after school-what parents do. My school had a list of many programs that parents used with programs. Local daycares that would come pick them up.
I wound up not getting the list because I then found out their school does have an after school program. Can you call the school and ask them? I would also email the parent coordinator. They should be able to offer you guidance on what other parents have done.

Re: what do i do? school related
I'd probably ask a neighbor or SAHM to see if they can help (is there busing?). I'd offer to pay them something. Is it just 1-2 hours before and after school? Three days a week isn't too bad for someone who might be home anyway.

I teach in elmhurst and many kids get picked up by after care/daycares that are nearby. Maybe you could look into something like that. Maybe another parent of a classmate?

I'm not familiar with the city but on LI schools will bus to day cares in the district. I would look into that.

Don't live in queens but have you looked in to daycare around the area? Do you have places like tutor time? They usually offer before and after care
