Caribbean vacation in January
Help me decide where to go on vacation in January (MLK week) with our kids (11, 8, and 10 months---although depending on where we go we might not fake the baby). We were planning on going to Costa Rica but with Zika, I think we decided to nix that idea since we will be in the rainforest. I will not be pregnant and don't plan on having another baby but we are concerned with the unknown long term effect esp on kids. We would also prefer to stay at a Marriott property because we have tons of points. These our options so far and our hesitations so would love feedback or other suggestions: Cancun: Zika is in Mexico but low risk in resort areas where we would be. St. Kitts: Beach at Marriott isn't great for swimming Atlantis: too cold in January? Turks &Caicos: no Marriott but the kids have been dying to go to Beache. too cold? Other locations that fit the bill? TIA

I loved the Marriott in St. Kitts. Why do you say the beach isn't good for swimming - when I was there (about 7 years ago), they had built a rock wall (jetty?) a ways out in the water that made for a very calm area for swimming. The pool is beautiful and overall, I loved really it there.

My husband was there years ago and said it wasn't great and I read in some reviews it was very seaweedy and not the beautiful Caribbean waters we are looking for but I'll look into it more. Thanks for your feedback.

We've been to Aruba many times and want something different. Zika is there too.

I saw this and it looks amazing! Is it family friendly or better for an adults only getaway. Beaches in Cabo aren't swimable right?

Zika is just about everywhere ... Costa Rica WAS amazing and with the older kids I'd do that and pack DEET. Grand Cayman was amazing and Zika free... But Florida has Zika now!

What about St. Thomas at the Marriott Frenchman's Reef? Never stayed, but we too have a ton of Marriott points, so I'm always looking for fun places.
We went to Puerto Rico earlier in the year and stayed at the San Juan Marriott Stellaris. Yes, there is Zika, but there are no mosquitoes on the beach there, too windy. We didn't see a single one our entire trip. Hotel is super family friendly and fun!

DH and I went 2 years ago and LOVED it so we have been planning to take the kids ever since (couldn't go last year bc I was pregnant and wouldn't have been able to do much). I just read that there have been a bunch of cases in the town next door to where we would stay and where we would go to eat. My DD and I get eaten alive even when I where spray so I know I'll be anxious even if the risk is small.
Grand Cayman is a good option though!! Thanks!

We love St.. Thomas and want to take the kids at some point. We stayed at the Ritz, which I recommend 100% (can use Marriott points). Zika is there too but I have to look at the risk, location, and number of cases.
I've been to PR too (DH travels for work so every vacation us at a Marriot). I liked it but want something different for this vacation.
Thanks for your thoughts.
