other disney pros
I hate the food in Disney, too much of it and not stuff I like, breakfast I don't mind. We don't do Buffets as we are not huge eaters so we do quick serve stuff in the parks, but as for sit down stuff I was thinking as we rented a car that we will do local non disney food. Anyone do this? any tips or concerns?
thanks in advance

We stay offsite so we generally do non Disney food for most of our trip.
There are a lot of chain restaurants in the area (think any chain imaginable) but, we haven't found anything that I would recommend that's not a chain. We generally stick to ones that we don't have close by to us - Long Horn, Carabbas, Millers Ale House and Benihana.

Re: other disney pros
We never eat Disney. There are tons of places of all sorts. We even eat at the "fancy" places like Emerils & Palm... Fish places, steak places. Chains are everywhere (just look at all the non Disney hotels). I find they are all (even the fancy ones) very accommodating to families & the food is really great quality. That being said, we stay offsite, so it is actually easier for us to do this. And yes, I like less of better food. The kids also don't eat typical kids food (so we buy an extra appetizer or entree).

DH and I call Orlando the Land of Chain Restaurants.
We do mostly signature dining at Disney and have never been disappointed in the food. However, if you are not a fan, do yourself a favor and check out the restaurants in the Swan/Dolphin. There's Shula's Steakhouse, Il Mulino, Tod English's restaurant... all very very good.
Also, in Downtown Disney, Morimoto is delicious - just as good if not better than the NYC location.

Re: other disney pros
Also, Downtown Disney (a/k/a Disney Springs) has some great restaurants - much better than standard theme park fare.
We like Raglan Road, Wolfgang Pucks, and STK.
My BIL and SIL work for Disney and just tried D-Luxe Burger and said it was really good.
