Just wanted to put this out there. . .

I read this online last week and it really stuck with me.

"If you think you're with the angels on an issue, any issue, then you're creating devils in the negative space of your virtue. That is the seed of all extremism."

I might not agree with you, but I am truly trying to understand your point of view. But, if you automatically dismiss me because of my views, automatically make me out to be the "devil", believe that there is only one correct way to see something, then how can we ever find peace. And to me, peace isn't about everyone agreeing - but just having respect for differing points of view - politically, religiously etc. (Maybe I'm being naive and overly hopeful, but I think we need to start somewhere.) All the name calling and hate (and I'm not talking about on LIF) is really, really getting to me. It is possible to be passionate about something without belittling someone who feels differently.

Sadly, some people (nothing specific to LIF) are unable to express their views without being rude, thoughtless, and demeaning to others. What I am seeing from people on FB is just unreal and at the end of the day, the ones running their mouths off CONSTANTLY are the ones who sound the most ignorant and misinformed. Chat Icon

I understand your sentiment and I know that I am guilty of that. I am passionate and that doesn't always translate online. Especially when people just want to dismiss obvious facts in favor of opinion. This election is beyond frustrating and divisive and I have an idea why Dems are so confused with Trumps campaign and supporters. We all believe that we are intelligent and good people with morals and values and we know right from wrong, we know what is appropriate to say or not say, and we know what core values a President should embody. We believe we should all be respected and given opportunities. We naively think being a good person and standing together is all it takes to unite a divided nation - but it's so much deeper than that. And when you have someone like Trump, who has practically denigrated every single group of people in our society, blatantly disrespected our government, makes a joke of laws and women and the disabled and the less fortunate, who has zero empathy or compassion, who embodies an ideology that we would never ever tolerate in any other fashion, let alone give a platform and presidential nomination, people who don't support him are legitimately dumbstruck.

I'm not saying you can't agree or want conservative politics or anything like that - but why him? Why does HE have to be the face of that? Why are we belind to the hypocrisy? Why is he cheered instead of being made accountable? And policies or lack thereof aside - does he truly embody the qualities we've come to expect of our commander in chief?

We always say that children are taught to hate - and Trump has been taught that he's better than everyone else, smarter than everyone else, and richer than everyone else. He has nothing to lose with this election, all he can gain is power, and that to him is like the end all be all of his existence. Power. I'm not so sure why people are so willing to feed his ego and become collateral damage.

It's not something I can reconcile and I guess others can. It just makes you question our society that he is being hailed as a hero when for all intents and purposes, he is he very farthest thing from a hero.
