Anyone rented dvc points?
Dh''s coworker said it's one of the best ways to stay in Disney. I'm trying to research it and see if there are any pros and cons.

I haven't, but I recommend checking out disboards.com. They'll have all the info you need.

Re: Anyone rented dvc points?
We did and it was fantastic.
We saved a lot of money and it was seamless. We went through a company - The DVC Rental Store. They were great and didn't charge us a fee to look up availability (unlike Dave's which charges you $95 if you don't book).
There were literally ZERO cons.

Interesting, I'm going to have to check this out. Thanks.

Re: Anyone rented dvc points?
I have been tentatively looking into this for our next visit. The main thing I would pass on is that you are better off using a service like the ones mentioned above, as opposed to renting directly from an owner. You spend more when using a service but you won't get ripped off.

Thank you. I was looking at Daves at didn't realize the money wasn't refundable if you don't book.

That's not exactly true.
When you inquire, you list a certain number of preferences. Somewhere between 1-3 - it's been a while so I don't remember. If they have any of those available and then you cancel, they keep the fee. But if they have no availability, they'll tell you and they'll either refund your money or you can ask about other properties.
So you just have to be prepared to book once you ask about a property.
Once you do pay in full, then it's non refundable. You can get travel insurance for the major issues. But you can't change your mind.
The deals are incredible. We stayed in a studio villa at the Boardwalk for less than a room at POFQ.

Which resort?
It let you pick four. In order I chose:
1) Polynesian 2) Wilderness Lodge 3) Bay Lake Towers at the Contemporary 4) Grand Floridian
ETA - I'll let you know what prices they come back with. They said 24-48 hrs for a response.

Re: Anyone rented dvc points?
I've never rented someone's points, but have rented out my own when I knew we weren't going to be able to use them.
The savings are really incredible. Some things to remember though: You are not booking a vacation THROUGH Disney. You are going through either a service (like David's) or an individual owner. If there is an issue, Disney will not help you.
Most transactions are final transactions. Once you book, you can't change your mind, upgrade your room, change your dates, cancel, etc.
If you want Magical Express or the Meal Plan, the owner must add it for you. You cannot contact Disney directly. It's really not a big deal - just know before you book if you are going to do the meal plan and do it one transaction. Adding Magical Express can be done later.
Because you are not booking a "package" you will need to get your tickets separately. You can go directly through Disney or through an outside vendor (Mousesavers, Tickets at work, AAA, etc.)
You will not get housekeeping every day. I personally love this, but some people complain. Depending on the length of your stay, you will get "trash and towel" service on day 4 and a full clean on day 8. You can arrange with the front desk to add more cleaning, but you will have to pay for it.
In every other way, it is a regular Disney reservation. You can link your reservation through My Disney Experience, make your meal reservations, order magic bands, make your fast passes, charge to the room, etc., all as you normally would.
If you were planning on staying at a moderate or value, you won't really save any money, but if you wanted to stay at a deluxe, it's a big savings. We are going for 5 nights in October, staying at the Poly in a studio - it's 92 points. I think Davids is now charging $14 a point - the room would be $1,288. Same room, no discounts, no tickets would be $2,790 directly through Disney.

The biggest drawback is you can't cancel or change your dates. You will have to get trip insurance from an outside company. Make sure if you do that you understand your trip insurance policy. When we rented points I got my trip insurance through insuremytrip.com. I had a work issue going on so I knew there was a possibility that I might have to cancel the trip. I made sure to get a "cancel for any reason" rider. Thankfully I didn't have to cancel and had a great experience renting points. I rented directly with an owner.

No. The prices are set for the year. The only deal you might get, depending when you go, is free dining.

Re: Anyone rented dvc points?
DVC is not subject to seasonal pricing on the meal plans. Our meal plan prices are set every January 1. The 2017 meal plan price isn't out yet.
2016 prices per night per guest:
Regular: $61.84/adult $20.96/child
Deluxe $111.73/adult $32.56/child
Quick Service $42.84/adult $17.47/child
DVC does not get free dining - unless you book a DVC villa directly through Disney.

Re: Anyone rented dvc points?
We rented through DVC too. No issues at all. We saved a lot of money on AKL Kidani. Like previous poster mentioned, you can't cancel. They offer their own point insurance that you can buy. The other thing to know is that you have to pay it all ahead of time (I don't recall how far). That doesn't bother me because it allows me to spread the cost over a longer period of time but some people may have an issue with it. Another thing to note on the meal plan is that they charge about 3% extra for this than Disney prices to cover the credit card fees since they don't make money on this. I also found not only do you save money but they sometimes have some availability that disney direct doesn't have because availability for DVC members is separate from disney direct. I will definitely use them again.

Anyone rented dvc points?
I have.....got a 1 bedroom at SSR on ebay dirt cheap. We paid like $1200 for a week over Feb break. It was exactly a penny less than the moderate I originally booked. I don't recommend SSR though...bus service is atrocious to MK. Actually MK bus is bad at a lot of the resorts. We stayed at Coronado this week after our cruise and bus was slow to MK. For every 4 buses to other parks, there is one foe MK. Also don't count on the monorail running efficiently if you choose a dvc on the monorail. Took us 45 minuted to loop around the lake today. No ac and it broke down twice.

Also you can book travel insurance through a third party cheap if you are concerned with the cancellation policy.
