So basically my tenure that I had in my prior district is totally useless. I've been out of the job market for a couple of years as I've been on an extended maternity leave . anyway I just got offered a probationary position which I accepted, but now have to go for 4 years for tenure rather than 3 because of new laws. I didn't have a rating on AA PR as effective since last year they can't accept my prior tenure????

are you going from the city to LI or vice versa? if so, that is probably why you have to redo it

If you're appointed July 1, 2015 or later then you have a 4 year probationary period - reduced to 3 if you are previously tenured. (It used to be 3 years unless you had prior tenure - reduced to 2.)

They should give you the 3 year period when you show them proof of previous tenure and previous APPR ratings. Even if they don't it's not the biggest deal. By the end of the 3rd year, the district would not keep somebody around if they didn't think they were worthy of tenure. I'm guessing you had good reason to switch LI districts, so congrats!

With the new laws, you should have a 3 year prob period (used to be 2) if you were previously granted tenure).
