Hardwood floors, crawler, baby proofing...

FTM here. My LO just turned 7 months and is crawling everywhere. My entire house has hardwood floors, so I purchased those foam playmat squares in a neutral pattern with one of those white gates to go around, so he has a nice size play area in our living room (I never would have thought in a million years that I would have something like this in my living room LOL). However he is happiest when he is just free to crawl. So my question is... Do you keep LO confined to one "safe room" that you baby proofed? I honestly feel like I would need to overhaul my living room in order to let him roam safely. Like remove every knick knack, cover the stone on our raised hearth on our fireplace, is this all necessary? Not sure what to do here. This really happened very fast LOL. Any insight is appreciated, thanks!

Nope. We have hard wood throughout, and only 2 small rugs. We never baby proofed anything

My whole house is hardwood. We have a 3x5 play mat on top of an area rug but that's it. I never confined an area.

We also have hardwood and two area rugs but never put down any other type of matting/flooring.

We have all hardwood too, no area rugs. I never gated in. I only put gates at the top and bottom of the stairs and locks on the cabinets under the kitchen sink.

We have a small area with foam mats and a few area rugs. We never confined them other than closing a few doors, locking a few cabinets, and putting a gate at the bottom of the stairs. I did get rid of some clutter in low areas which is win win to me

We put plugs in our open electrical outlets and gates at the top of our stairs. Other than that, the kids can roam freely. That being said, I try not to keep "knick knacks" around for the baby to put into her mouth. Anything small is higher than her reach.

The only babyproofing we have is a gate at the top of the stairs and outlet plugs.

I have wood throughout and am on a concrete slab so it pretty hard. Never even worried about it.

Basically no knick knacks around, or anything I wouldn't want them to break, but that's it. I never baby proofed anywhere. No outlet covers or cabinet locks. I moved cleaning products and anything potentially poisonous out of reach, and kept bathroom doors closed. My kids were all early crawlers and extremely active -they would never stay still on a mat or a confined area.
