Early Intervention
I am going to start the EI process for my 2 y/o daughter (concerned with her expressive language). Her ped agrees that I should have her evaluated. I tried calling the Suffolk number yesterday and today (853-3100) and nobody answered so I will keep trying. Can anybody share what agency they used and your experience? TIA!

Re: Early Intervention
Is there voicemail to leave a message?
I'm in Nassau and when I called for an evaluation no one answered, but I left a message and they called me back.
I used Kidz Therapy for his evaluation and for his speech services when he qualified.
I also used them for the CPSE evaluation.
They were great. I have no complaints.

Very strange that no one would answer. I can't remember if I had to leave a voicemails but I always talked to the woman the same day. No recommendations for speech since my experiences were both with pt but it's a fairly simple process, just takes a little time.

Re: Early Intervention
My coworker lives in Suffolk and used Commack Speech for her DD. I used All About Kids for DS and I think they go to Suffolk but I had mixed experiences with them.

I have a foolish question... isn't early intervention a state run program? In that case, why would there be different agencies?
Isn't it just a Nassau branch or a Suffolk branch or a Queens Branch
Or is it like the DMV, government run but have different offices

It is state/county run but private agencies provide the services and evaluations and then they are paid by EI and in part your insurance. We are now going through case evaluations which is through the school district but the evaluation is still being done through a private agency or school.

Re: Early Intervention
Thank you all SO much! I didn't get to call during work today but I am going to try again tomorrow. There was no option to leave a message the other times I called--it just rang and rang .

Thank you! Good to know you had positive experiences. They are one of the agencies I was looking at online. They have a Hauppauge office.

We got the process started by having a referral made and then EI contacted me. Can your ped put in a referral for you?

I asked the dr if she made the referral or if I needed anything from her to get started and she said no, that I should just call. I'm going to try the Suffolk number again tomorrow and if I don't get anyone, I think I can contact Kidz Therapy and they can put in the referral to the county.

Re: Early Intervention
I used Metro Therapy and they were so so so WONDERFUL!!! Terri was my case coordinator, and she was the best!! Every therapist who worked with my daughter was so dedicated and truly invested in my daughter's progress. Terri even came with me to tour schools when the time came for DD to enter Kindergarten.

Thanks so much--sounds awesome! I finally got a hold of someone in the Suffolk office and they said I should hear from someone within 5 business days to set up initial appt. at the Hauppauge office.

Re: Early Intervention
We did it in Nassau but I contacted the private agency first and they put in the referral to the county and then the county called me. It was a smooth and easy process that way. I used MKSA but I think they're only in Nassau. Had a great experience with them.
