Breast feeding and pacifiers?
Did you give DC a pacifier when exclusively breast feeding and if yes at what age ? I have not introduced bottles yet . DD is a week and a half old and at times seems to use me as a human pacifier. She will eat for a good amount of time and then shortly after be fussy and only seems to calm down if I "feed " her again but it seems she isn't really eating since she will suck for a few minutes and then fall asleep Can I introduce a pacifier???

Re: Breast feeding and pacifiers?
We did- about a week old we gave DD a pacifier. A week later, a bottle. I needed to since she was doing the same thing- nursing for comfort. My nipples were so cracked and bleeding I couldn't take it. She goes back and forth between all three like a champ- from breast to bottle to pacifier and back again. Zero nipple confusion. She's now 5 weeks.

Re: Breast feeding and pacifiers?
I did with both girls and EBF both girls...no issues at all. One preferred it more than the other, but they both had no problems nursing.

Breast feeding and pacifiers?
I BF and introduced a paci right away and bottles right away. He had no nipple issue confusion at all. He actually rejected the paci though at a young age. Maybe 2 months he wasn't into it anymore.

Breast feeding and pacifiers?
I gave both kids pacifiers from the beginning and exclusively breast fed them both for a year +. Well I also pumped but they never took to bottles well at all. Neither one loved the pacifier immediately but I had to keep trying to give me a break. Never caused any confusion. My first self weaned from the pacifier at around 7 months. My second we had to take it away on her 2nd birthday.

Same here. DS used his pacifier until he was maybe 4 months.

Breast feeding and pacifiers?
We introduced bottles and a paci immediately since DD was in the NICU for her first 2 days. She never had any nipple confusion.

Re: Breast feeding and pacifiers?
We introduced early too.. around 3 weeks. Bottle and pacifier. She still BF at 8 months. All of the books say to wait but I don't see why. She was used to all of them so early on that she has no trouble switching from one to the other.

Breast feeding and pacifiers?
Nipple confusion is very rare.
That being said, the cluster feeding this early on is a very good thing and is building your supply. Hang in there!!

Breast feeding and pacifiers?
I did. Ds took one for a few months. Dd still has it at almost one. But with dd, I used mam pacifiers AND bottles to avoid too many nipples

DS was born on May 4th and this is him!! No interest in a pacifier and insane cluster feeding. He would feed for 6 hours straight on and off. Omg it was exhausting. With that said it's only been 4 weeks and the nursing has definitely gotten better. The first 2 weeks were pure hell but I'm starting to feel like I got over the worst of it. I didn't try to force the pacifier too much because I did feel like he had no interest but also he was having such a difficult time latching to it that I did feel like it confused him. The cluster feeding will help your milk supply as draining as it is. Some helpful tips I got from my lactation consultant was to express a little milk after each feeding and rub it around your nipple and let it air dry. You won't need any creams and this totally helps me and I didn't get any cracked nipples, but they will be sore. Pump after 2 weeks and let someone else do the bottle feeding. Baby should strictly nurse with you. Also, I feel like every night I'd say I can't do this anymore but then I'd get through another day. I truly feel like you gave to take it one day at a time. This has been the longest month of my life!! I didn't breastfeed DD and this is much more demanding! Oh and he still doesn't like the pacifier, but will take it for a short time. I'm still trying to find one he likes. It might not ever happen though.

My son was like that for the first few weeks as well. He would literally clusterfeed from like 7-12 every night.

Breast feeding and pacifiers?
I gave a paci on day 3 just because I wanted to see if she took it (she did) and also because she looked so cute. I breast fed till she was 2.5 years old. Introduced a random bottle here and there after a few weeks and then when I went back to work at 5mos she had consistent bottles during the day when I pumped. For the record she loved her paci but at Christmas I said Santa was taking it to give to the babies who don't have one and leaving her toys instead. She accepted this and was mostly okay.

Same with DD! I was so close to giving up breastfeeding because I was so tired and in so much pain. We're both finally getting into the swing of things- I'm even able to pump and freeze for future use now! Hang in there!

Re: Breast feeding and pacifiers?
I gave a paci in the hospital and I supplemented with formula. I went on to breastfeed for a year. I think it all depends of your baby and how well they can latch with nursing.

Re: Breast feeding and pacifiers?
We introduced it at a month. It didn't effect breastfeeding, though he never liked pacifiers. Not sure if one had anything to do with the other. We ultimately just stopped even trying.

Re: Breast feeding and pacifiers?
We did at about a week old. I did the stick your finger in it one and it took a few tries but he latched on pretty quickly and loved it. He used a paci until he was 2 years old, and he nursed until 2.5 years old.
