4 year old and neck pain

DS woke up screaming his neck hurts. I figured he probably slept wrong bc he's always all over the bed or sometimes sleeps sitting up propped on his pillows.
I didn't think kids really get neck pain like that. Poor kid is crying in pain and won't move. Trying a heating pad. Any advise? I feel terrible. He won't let me him.

Give him motrin and use the heating pad.

My 6 year old has gotten it a couple of times - he too sleeps all over the place.

If he has any associated fever or lethargy I would go to the pedi. Lots of things can cause neck pain both muscular as well as infectious (lyme or other tick born illness /meningitis etc)

Thanks all! No fever and between Advil and the heating pad he's back to himself. Although he likes being lazy now so letting him lay on the couch and watch TV, but I told him no Ipad bc it's bad for the neck. LOL
