Formula moms-weaning process-please refresh me
DS will be one in about 2 weeks. His 12 month visit isn't until later in the month and I know he can be off formula by then. I can't remember what I did with my older son. When do we start and how do we do it? And would it be terrible if I started it now that I'm running low on formula and don't feel like buying anymore?

My ped said to every day add an ounce of milk so, 7 oz forumula 1 oz milk, then the next day 6 oz formula, 2 oz milk , and so forth, until completely weaned.

Okay thank you! And would it be "allowing my child to crawl into a gorilla cage" negligent of me to start that now instead of waiting until he hits exactly one year?

LOL . No I started it when she was 11.5 months or so too...I wanted to do it slow since I was worried about her reflux etc. By 1 year old she was fully on the milk.

You can start when ever and you can do it gradually or all at once. Let your DS dictate it. Some kids don't care and will take to milk without the transition.
Also the total milk should not equal the ounces you were giving in formula. To much milk will give an iron issue

We started about 3 weeks before DD turned 1 because we were running out of formula, too. Plus, she hated formula. Now she LOVES drinking milk. It was a super easy transition. I did 2 oz in her bottle for a few days, then 3 oz and so forth until she was on all milk. She was a bit constipated for a week or so, but every baby is different. When I changed DS to milk, he never had any reaction at all.

This exactly. It took a little over a week to have her fully weaned and she never even noticed.
I wish I would have also transitioned her from the bottle at the same because now at 22 months she refuses to drink milk out of anything except the bottle

I actually did the opposite and started weaning after a year bc I had formula that I didn't want to waste. But when I did I started with like 1oz milk, 7oz formula. Every day I upped the milk by an ounce and decreased the formula by an oz. transition was very easy.

I tried to do the straw cup with milk at a year. (Which she had been drinking from and loving with water since 6 months). Dd1 wanted no part in it. With any cup I gave her...She had a bottle until 2 1/2!! She is such a picky eater I wanted her to still have the milk. At 2 years, 5 months I finally said no more bottles. She said ok and that was it. The only time she'll drink milk is if it's Chocolate milk which is very, very rare. But she has a ton of yogurts and cheese so I'm not worried.

This is going to be my dd. She can drink liquids out of any cup and will drink water out of a straw/sippy/regular cup, but once you try to add milk to it she refuses to drink it and screams. I literally have an entire drawer of cups we have tried for milk. I don't want her to give up milk though because she is also a picky eater. Every weekend I say this is it, we are going cold turkey and then never have the nerve. Hopefully one day!

I did this and it backfired. She never had an issue with formula or breast milk but when we did this type of transition, she became very constipated. We had to do it much more slowly and add a bit of prune juice until she got used to it.

Re: Formula moms-weaning process-please refresh me
Right now DS has 4-5 8-oz bottles a day. Should he be drinking the same amount in milk? I tried calling my ped today but their phones were down.

No that's too much milk. He should be getting the nutrients from food and that much milk can inhibit iron absorption.
My DS has a max of 3 glasses and they aren't even 8 ozs. Give water for other liquids.

I did the same. At a little over 11 months I started with an ounce of milk in the formula and gradually increased. They were entirely off formula before 12 months. Surprisingly it went really well. And now they love milk...more than most foods.

We did it cold turkey. Went to the doctor and she said we can switch to milk. That night I gave him a bottle with milk in it. No issues at all.

We switched at 11 months cold turkey and it went fine. Also tossed the bottles and switched to sippy cup.
