Should felons who have completed their sentence be allowed to vote?
Should felons who have completed their sentence (incarceration, probation, and parole) be allowed to vote?
The courts have determined that they have paid their debts to society, but with current laws, they can never vote again in some states.
In NY, only inmates and parolees can't vote, but once they are released, they can vote again.
Some states allow felons in jail to vote.

Re: Should felons who have completed their sentence be allowed to vote?
Tough one!
I would say once the felon completed his/her sentence, yes, but maybe they would have to maintain a period of not breaking the law.
I think the stigma that follows people around once they get out of prison makes it hard for them to really reintegrate to society, and I think this may make them likely to re-offend. We have so many people in prison for nonviolent drug offenses especially- I think it would be unfair to condemn them for life when it comes to voting.

Personally.. I don't see how one should impact the other. Yes I understand that said person shouldn't have done what they did to have a felony in the first place, but voting for a president vs felony...doesn't add up.

Yes. If they have served their time, there is no reason they cannot vote

100% we let everyone vote. Think of all the people who just never got caught and made to face time - they get to vote don't they? Also like PP said there are many serving time for non-violent smaller crimes.

Agreed! I didn't even know this was a question. I can see while they are incarcerated but even on parole I feel like they should be able to vote. They Are citizens with rights too.

What is the reason behind them not being allowed to vote?
