Cruise with kids
I want to take my 3 and 6 year old on a carnival cruise in July is this a really dumb idea? Is 3 too young? It's only 4 days so there isn't too much down time on the ship. Anyone regret taking young kids?

Re: Cruise with kids
We took our kids as young as 8 months. Always enjoyed it (but never used kids clubs yet).

Re: Cruise with kids
Not a dumb idea at all. I am a pretty seasoned cruiser, although never cruised on Carnival. I think cruise vacations are great for kids. Lots of things to do (most have a kids club on board, which I'm pretty sure start at 3yo). Plus there are tons of family friendly activities for the entire family to do together.
Although July is the most expensive cruise month if you are leaving out of NY especially (Thats a huge downfall)

Re: Cruise with kids
As long as they are old enough for the kids club I would highly recommend a cruise.
We went (on a different cruise line) when our kids were too little for the club and our time on the ship was EXHAUSTING, but once they are older I can't wait to go back!

Re: Cruise with kids
My kids have been on 3 ( another booked) cruises. Never with Carnival, only Celebrity. My kids loved their cruises. We started when my youngest was 2 (27 months). At 3 should be fine as long as they are potty trained to go in the pools and kids club.

As long as the children are potty trained (so they can use the pool), then you should have a wonderful time. Cruising is our choice of vacation and have taken our daughter on about 8 cruises already starting at age 3 and are taking another this June (she's 9). My DD does not use the kids clubs but most kids love that as well and it then gives you some alone time with DH : ).

Cruise with kids
We just got back from a Disney Cruise with our 3 kids. Twin boys almost 4 and almost 6 yo DD. We had such an amazing time. I really loved the aspect where you can be busy on the ship or at a port but don't have to think about meals. Finding a restaurant and all that jazz. We were so busy they didn't even make it into the kids club. I highly recommend cruising with kids 3 and older.

Ive been on 6 Carnival cruises. The last in January I took the kids for the first time. Mine are older, but they looooooooved it! I felt totally comfortable with the camp. I read the bios on the counselors & many were early childhood majors at home. For your kids ages they will give you a cell phone so they can contact you if needed. My kids enjoyed camp especially my then 6yr old son. He wanted the pool all day & camp all night after dinner. As long as your kids are potty trained they can use the pools. Depending on the ship there may be a splash park too. My kids loved that. We're going again for a longer cruise in October & they count down everyday.
As for dress code, you'll have 1 elegant night on a 4-day itinerary. You'll see dress on that evening range from suits & gowns to slacks & a polo for men & slacks & a top for ladies. For elegant night, my son wore khakis & a black shirt. My daughter & i wore casual dresses & sandals.
On casual nights you'll see everything. My son wore jeans & a t-shirt when we went to the dining room. My daughter & I wore jeans & a nice top on casual nights.

my son is 5.5- he's our only child, and i stay home with him (he's not in kindergarten yet). COMPLETE mommas boy!!! BUT even i was fine with leaving him in the kid's club on our Disney cruise in January. LOL They have great security methods using passwords, etc so i really felt safe. and he LOVED it! one night they had "mouseketeer training", and mickey came by, another night was "super hero training", and i think it was Iron Man that came by... and the day we were on the Disney island, he went in the kid's club, too- they had a drop off section right on the island
We also tried to leave him in there on our cruise on Norwegian cruise line 2 years ago... but he was only 3 then, and just wasn't ready-- they called us like 10 minutes after we dropped him off HAHAHA so , anyway, i think all the cruise lines do a great job with the kid's clubs and will find you if theres an issue.
as far as dress--- they usually have one "formal" night on every cruise, but its optional. if you want to all get all dressed up and get nice family pics, go for it! if you want to just wear more casual stuff thats fine. for the most part, in the dining room at night you just can't wear like tank tops, bathing suits, stuff like that. DH and DS usually just wear polos and khaki shorts, and i usually either wear casual dress, or nice jeans and a nicer shirt...

Which cruise did you book? N/M, I see Carnival.
You can book a "throw away" room at the Comfort Suites Atlantis. Then check in, but obviously not stay overnight.

I saw that option.. Also being that my three year old is free Atlantis offers a day pass for $120 I just don't know what that allows you to do..it says waterpark and beaches does that mean we can't see the dig?

I have no idea because we've never been (no interest in Atlantis as a cruise excursion). I would definitely call and ask though. I know from reading that the day passes are hit or miss, and many times they aren't offered when the ships are in port

Imo Atlantis is for swimmers. I wouldn't take a 3 yo.

Another alternative to Atlantis is the Blue Lagoon. We are doing that on our Disney Cruise. It looks nice, and lower key than Atlantis. You CAN swim with dolphins or just stand there and do a dolphin experience, but we aren't into that part of the excursion. So we will hang on the beach, rent kayaks, do the inflatable section in the water, etc. It's much less expensive than Atlantis, and probably less crowded

Cruise with kids
On our Disney cruise we booked at room at Comfort Inn across the street from Atlantis. The room came with 4 wrist bands for full access to everything at Atlantis. We checked in, went over the Atlantis and spent the entire day at the beaches and pools then headed back to the ship.
Eta: everyone said to stay on the ship in Nassau and we are so glad we did NOT listen. Atlantis was one of the highlights of our trip. It was not crowded at all.

I disagree.
All of my kids loved Atlantis, they are not swimmers but do take swimming lessons. My 3 yo twin boys had a blast in the kids pools, regular pools, lagoon and beaches wearing their puddle jumpers.

Is it feasible to bring an umbrella stroller?

Yes you can take one. Atlantis is huge and there is a lot of walking going from place to place. Overall we managed well without any strollers and our kids are young, 3,3 and 5
