I use to work for a collection Laws firm. If you have not been sent to collection yet and owe money to a store, company etc and cannot pay off your bill at once, set up a payment plan now with them before they send you to collections. If you have been sent to collections do not avoid their calls. Set a payment plan even if its $5.00 a month. They don't usually care the amount, just that you are paying.
Also, A law firm is not allowed to be rude, nasty, threaten or use scar tactics, they are to follow the law and treat you with respect. If an agency calls that totally different, they can be rude and use scare tactics, at least when I was working. It has been some years so the rules might have changed.

I worked for a collection atty while I was in law school
I will FM you the info. They work one a percentage. Same as an agency would.

Not true. Agencies and law firms all have to follow the FDCPA for personal debt. No one should be harassing you no matter what.

from what I know agencies can get away with crappy nasty behavior, or that is what I witnessed.
