Mirena?
I know I've heard horror stories on here about Mirena but has anyone had a GOOD experience? I went back on the same pill I was on pre-pregnancy and after 3 months I've had random periods, cramping and today I have definite ovulation pain. It's like I'm not taking anything at all.
Am I nuts for even considering Mirena?

Re: Mirena?
I have it for over a year now and love it! I had breakthrough spotting on and off for the first 3-4 months, and after that I never got my period again.
It's been a dream. No adverse side effects whatsoever.

My 2 coworkers have it and love it. I'm thinking of switching from the pill to it.

Re: Mirena?
I use Paragaurd...a copper IUD is the best for your body. It comes with or without hormones so if you're having pain and irregularity you may be better off with hormones.

Re: Mirena?
My OB swears by Mirena but I'm just not sold on the IUD. I had a friend said she bled heavily for so long. That scares me. I am just very apprehensive about having foreign objects in me for these nightmare reasons.
But I would like to hear more good experiences & maybe I'll change my mind.

Paragard is only non hormonal its AKA copper IUD, the copper causes an irritation which causes a mucus build up, that build up blocks the tubes

See, this freaks me out. I've heard sometimes it can't be removed. If I'm going to lose a body part I'd rather it be my uterus than my arm!

Re: Mirena?
The doctor that put mine in said, you are going to hate it for the first six months but after that you are going to love it. I think she's right. I did bleed for like 2 months straight but now I haven't had anything and its been great. Most people I spoke with had bleeding issues in the first 3 months and then it stopped. Only a few said the bleeding lasted 6 months.

Mirena?
Freaking LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED it. OMG I could be a walking advertisement for it! Wore it for the full 5yrs plus a little longer. Just had it removed. Unfortunately the new version is called Skyla. It's smaller and is only 3yrs.
I bled heavy for a month maybe? then off and on spotting and annoyingly for the next few. But then it stopped and I mean STOPPED!
NO periods for 5 freaking years.
I repeat...
NO PERIODS FOR FIVE FREAKING YEARS!
They say that's not a guarantee. But man alive is it a bonus! My negative is insertion tho. It's rough on me. But no matter how painful it is, those few moments of one day are so worth it for years of hassle free life.

Re: Mirena?
question though- if you aren't getting a period anymore how do you know you aren't pregnant? I heard of people getting pregnant with mirena so I'd be a nervous freaking wreck not getting a period I like getting a period every month- so I know I'm safe!

My doctor checks for it at visits (every 6 months) and I don't bleed at all (maybe a little spotting once a month)...I imagine I would know it came out for me since I don't have any bleeding...If I had heavy bleeding where it might be hidden, I would be concerned.

You are supposed to be able to feel the strings to make sure it's still there. I've never personally done it, but you can.
I'm not having sex nearly enough to be worried about getting pregnant.

I never got my period on the pill before I got pregnant and it was amazing. Getting pregnant with Mirena is VERY rare, the women who get pregnant do so because it falls out. That's why you need to check the strings.
The fact that it's so effective is why I want it. I don't want another baby now (or probably ever).

Mirena?
I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant because I was one of the "few" (which isn't very few if you do the research) who had it dislodge and come out during a heavy cycle.
When I first got it, I liked it. My cycles were no better or worse then when I didn't have anything or was on the pill. Every few months I'd have a heavier cycle, but again, nothing new for me. Then just about a year after getting it I was under a lot of stress and cycled VERY heavy thay month. I attributed it to the stress and craziness that was going on at the time.
Little did I know that the heavy cycle was more then likely caused by this hormonal piece of plastic, metal and what not, dislodging and expelling itself out of my body. A month and a half later (not knowing I wasn't protected) I got pregnant.
I just thank God that it didn't decide to shift and still allow me to get pregnant because they would have to attempt to remove it and that would have upped my chances of having a miscarriage. Or that it didn't shift and embed itself in my uterus or go completely through and lodge somewhere else. Then it would have to be surgically removed.
Eta - after contacting the company I learned that expulsion rate is around 8%-15%. The 1% they spit out is the chance of pregnancy while the Mirena is in its proper place. The chances of it shifting or embedding in/out of the uterus is up to 30%

Mirena?
That's a high expulsion rate. I'm going to speak with my OB again before deciding. I was on the pill for 12 years before getting pregnant and loved it, but it's not doing it for me anymore. The funny part is it took a while to conceive dd but I know one oops and I'll be preggers again because I DON'T want to be.
Thank you everyone for your feedback, and congrats on the LO nyangel!

Mirena?
I'm on year 3 of it and I don't LOVE it, but it's been getting the job done. I don't necessarily get a period but I just randomly bleed. Like regularly. So from that perspective, it's really annoying, but hey, at least I know I'm not pregnant, I guess. I'm also really sensitive to hormones and I sometimes wonder if this contributed to my PPD, which lasted until my DD was about 18-20 mo, but that's just speculation on my part. I probably should've done my research beforehand and requested paraguard, but at 12 wks PP, I can't say my head was on straight and I just wanted something that would make sure I didn't get pregnant again!
All I know is that when my 5 yrs are up, DH is getting snipped and I'm not getting this again

Apparently it's more if you have a tiled uterus, amongst a few other things. I found a lot of information after this happened that I wish I knew before! !
And thank you! While was definitely not planned, he/she is a blessing.

Mirena?
I've had Mirena since January of this year. I went on it due to extremely heavy periods after the birth of my ds. Finally I have some relief since this is my first cycle with a period not as heavy.
