Medela Pump Moms
Could you please let me know what to add to my BRU registry besides the actual pump itself. What other pieces will I need or are useful? What size bottles? Storage bottles or bags? Thank you!!!!

Does your insurance cover a pump?
A hands free bra. Simple wishes is the best one.
As for bottles, don't get a lot bc you don't know what your baby will like. You can pump into medela bottles and pour into the bottles your baby will like.
You can use any bm bags if you're storing in fridge or freezer and have a stash. I love the nuk ones. Lansinoh and even target are good. Medela you could pump directly into.

Re: Medela Pump Moms
Will you be pumping at work? If so, I suggest this.
Shoulder Bag
I also bought extra membranes, tubes, plug.. pretty much extra of each thing.
I have about 12 storage containers and also bags for the freezer. The containers - 4 for the cooler bag, 4 filled with milk for whoever is watching her, and some extra just in case.

Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover a pump. I plan on pumping at work. I added the most popular pump at BRU, Medela Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump - On-the-Go Tote. Anyone use this one?
In addition, I added: Medela Medium Flow Wide Nipples 3 Pack (1), Medela Slow Flow Wide Nipples 3 Pack (1), Medela BPA Free 8 Ounce Breast Milk Bottle Set (2), Medela BPA Free 5 Ounce Breast Milk Bottles 3 Pack (2), Medela BPA Free Feeding Gift Set (1), Medela Pump & Save Breastmilk Storage Bags - 50 count (1), Medela Disposable Nursing Bra Pads - 60 Count.
What else do I need or don't need that I added? I don't know anything about the pump! What is going in the freezer? The bags? What are the storage containers for? lolll the fridge ones? Tell me EVERYTHING! :o)

Personally I'd probably hold off until you have your baby. You won't be pumping and storing day 1 anyway. You never know what will work for you, so it may be better to just wait.

I prefer the lansinoh brand storage bags. As far as all the bottle parts, just don't open more than you need right away and see if baby likes it. Keep what you can sealed to return if you don't end up needing it. My first would only take tommy tippee bottles. My second didn't care. I found an extra set of parts helpful so I could have one set to use while the other was in the dishwasher.

I never used the medela bottles. I just transferred to whatever bottle I was using. You don't need the medium flow nipple. I used a medela bottle once and the slow flow was pretty fast as it was. Don't get too many supplies like bags or pads. I had a ton that I never used because I never had a good enough supply to freeze milk.
Get extra tubing and extra membranes but don't open any packages until you need them. You won't know if you need bigger or smaller flanges til after you start pumping.
Also don't open up all of those bottles. You don't know if your kid will like them.

This! My SIL was all about BFing pre baby, but then supplemented early on so my brother could help out more and stopped breastfeeding entirely around 8 months. I on the other hand was like ok let's give it a try and I've been doing it for two years.

The disposal nursing pads are awful. They would get stuck to me all the time and hurt to pull off.

This word for word. D's liked tommee topper, dd likes mam bottles.
I liked lansinoh bags bc the double zip lock feature. I also kept spare tubing and flanges at work so the other was left at home

Not true... When your baby can't latch, it's your first purchase you run out to bru for... Trust me, been there done that... Add to registry. And keep it on hand in case you do need it day 1. I had to pay out of pocket and that's not a cheap expense.

8 months is nothing to sneeze at....good for her. I made it 4 months and was still grateful to have all of these things on hand when needed.
OP, I would rather be prepared so yes get the supplies you listed and open what you need when you need them. I would also recommend the Medela quick steam sterilization bags. Good luck!

Could you borrow a pump from someone or buy a used one? That way you have something for immediate use, but not shelling out hundreds of dollars for something you may not use.
You could also rent a hospital grade pump, which is what I think I will do next time around.
As for supplies, I liked the lansinoh freezer bags best and my dd wouldn't take the medela bottles, so we only used them for storage. You definitely want lansinoh cream or coconut oil.

Personally I say register away...those extras are so expensive. I wouldn't open everything until you get into pumping as if it doesn't work out, you cant return anything you opened. With that being said, are you going to exclusively pump or are you going to nurse directly and pump to build extra supply? Personally, my kids didn't like the Medela bottles, but as someone else posted, the slow flow nipples on those or really any other bottle are sufficient. I never switched my kids to any other nipples. As far as bags for storage, I like the lansiloh as far as name brands go to register and such, otherwise I only use the target brand ones. The Medela bags tear easily when you are trying to open them and on a few occasions, I have almost dumped a bag of milk all over myself....that NEVER happened with any other brands. On the flip side, Medela does sell bags you can directly attach to the pump so you can pump right into the bags eliminating bottles thst you ultimately have to wash. (If you decide on using the Medela bottles then this would be a mute point) Medela does have connection pieces you can purchase to pump into other brand bottles....I use Playtex drop ins and I do have a conversion kit that allows me to pump directly into those bottles....I rarely use that option though as if you don't fill the entire bottle it's somewhat of a waste. As far as supplies I exclusively pumped and work full time so I had enough bottles and all the parts to pump 6 times a day (in the beginning) as I didn't have a place to wash them at work, nor did I really have much extra time to have to keep rewashing everything when I was home until my kids are asleep. This made it so much easier. Early on in felt like all I did was wash bottles/parts and pump. Amazon is way cheaper than bru/BBB so maybe consider an amazon registry...you will likely get more items purchased vs bbb/bru. (People tend to stray from pump supplies because they are so expensive and yet so it looks like they barely bought anything) Personally: Simple wishes bra is a must-I spent hundreds trying other ones and they all sucked. - milk storage bags. You can just lay them flat in your freezer then stick them in a zip lock freezer bag...you don't need all those contraptions that offer space savers...they take up more room and are a waste. If you lay the bag flat it freezes....flat. (I only used lansiloh or target brand bags. The target bags are way cheaper, are almost always on cartwheel plus with the 5% target card discount, they are way cheaper then all others and better. - bottles....I would register to have at least 4 full sets of parts (enough to pump 4 times a day) but enough for 6 is best. With that being said, the hospital gave me a boatload of the 5 ounce bottles....unfortunately for me...I pumped almost 16 Oz at a pop and they were only really helpful early on and towards the end of the year I pumped. If you are only supplementing with the pump, those bottles may be enough for you and you can return the purchased bottles and use that money elsewhere. - I have a fridge at work so I just stored milk there during the day and then just took milk bags home in a ziplock....I didn't use freezer packs....one less bulky bag to carry and really not necessary. - I have the pump in style double with the tote...super easy to set up and I highly recommend just getting the tote it comes with so you can just unzip and pump....vs digging it out of a just any old bag. - the flange parts I would recommend registering for whatever side you think you may be, but wait to open them. When you get to the hospital, they will help you figure out what size you are...then you can either open them up or exchange them for whatever size does work. - register for those little nipples brushes to clean out the parts - I never needed nipples creams, but everyone I know that has used it used the lansiloh....this is also something the hospital sent me home with a year supply...I gave it all away. - a cover up that goes around your neck to cover up...whether for modesty or chill factor. Personally I don't like to let it all hang out when I'm sitting at my desk at work, but to each there own. ??
That's really it as far as parts.
