Is this an allergy?
My six month old is vomiting after eating oatmeal cereal. I'm mixing it with his formula.
Is this considered an allergy or just and immature digestive system?
He's had fruit and veggie purees without a problem. I haven't tried any of the other cereals yet.
Any BTDT moms?

When I first introduced oatmeal he was only having 1-2 tbsp and was fine. We did that for about 3 days.
On the 4th day I increased it to 3 tbsp and then he vomited about 2 hours after. I figured he ate too much.
The next day he was acting his normal self. By early evening I was feeding my 3 year old and the baby was starring at him eat and moving his mouth, so I figured I would try oatmeal again. This time he only had about 1 tbsp. Vomited again after 2 hours.
I wasn't sure if it could possibly be a virus, so I gave him a 4 day break from all food. After the 4 days I gave him a puree, he was fine. Next day I gave him oatmeal, vomit after 2 hours.
As far as other symptoms, he was mopey after vomiting, but I figured that was the reason why. I didn't occur to me to look for any rashes on his body.

Could be, or it could be that he's struggling keeping it down. Is the vomiting immediately after or within a certain time frame?

My daughter has condition where that can be the reaction, it's basically a non-IgE/digestive issue, how much is he eating and how long after is he vomitting? Any other symptoms?

Sounds like an allergy... My son would do that with foods he was allergic too. He couldn't have Gerber cereals, had soy in it. Allergic to soy. Switched to Earths Best and then Beech Nut. Try another brand or try a different cereal..

If it's only happening with Oatmeal I think it would be an allergy. 6 months is young to test a baby for allergies, though. As you add more foods to his diet, see if he has the same reaction with other grains, wheat, etc. I'd also def mention to your ped at your next appt.

It sounds like a food allergy. I would stop giving him oatmeal/grains. My DS was tested for food allergies at 8 months old. I'd call an allergist to see when you should make an apt. I wouldn't wait with a suspected food allergy.

Did he vomit once each time or every 10 minutes or so until he was vomiting yellow stuff? Delayed vomiting could be FPIES. Could be just oats or could be other grains too.

I quickly looked up FPIES. Can you be diagnosed with FPIES if you are formula fed?

Yes. Some kids are diagnosed as babies, usually because they are FPIES to dairy, if it's just oats/grains, or other solids, your LO wouldn't react until they ingested it. So many kids are diagnosed later on when they start solids.
I wouldn't jump to any conclusion yet, but I would definitely get in to see the doctor and discuss what's going on. It's good to be aware so you can ask questions.
Just a heads up that a lot of doctors know nothing about FPIES, so it's probably worth bringing up that people mentioned that is what could be going on.

Yes. FPIES is often only to 1 or 2 foods. They could be fine with milk.

Also, my DD2 would sometimes have vomiting about an hour after eating if she had a cold or had a lot of teething drool. I think mucous and food would mix in her stomach and make her sick. That was all foods though.
