Giving myself a Mommy Fist Pump!

I stood up to crazy!

So a couple months ago, one of AJ's girl scout buddies needed a ride home (like a 5min drive from our house) and the mom asked if I could take her home. They live half a block from my house, so sure, right. I had another girl with me to take to my house.

I just need your car seat.
We don't use one for her.
I said fine (yeah sue me.. I was like mentally stupid)

I sat her between the two girls with car seats. I drove her home and on the way home I'm freaking the hell out! It was the LAST time I swore! AJ is asking why she has to have a car seat, blah blah. She got over it.

Fast forward to this weekend. Another Girl Scout event. Same mom is recovery from Strep. So she asked if I could take her kid home. Of COURSE. Just need the car seat. We don't use one, she just sits in the seat. I don't care and neither does the cop who will hand me a very expensive ticket. Oh!!! Um, ok I'll give you the younger daughter's convertible. Younger one wasn't with her Ok.

When we piled in my car later, said child was unhappy to be in a 'baby seat' but got over it on her own.

So I am fist pumping myself for standing up and saying NO. No car seat, no ride!

Re: Giving myself a Mommy Fist Pump!

it amazes me how many people don't follow the recommendations for car seats, boosters etc.
I am not sure if it's laziness- they can't be bothered with a 5 pt harness or stupidity or a rush to have their kids grown up- but it aggravates me to no end.
I just want to know when and how your child's saftey is trumped by other things.
These the same people who wouldn't have a sip of wine or a hot dog while pregnant. Chat Icon

DD is almost 6 and still in a 5 pt and will be for a LONG time.

My 6 year old is also still in a 5 pt and is very happy so I have no plans to make the change. I feel like I am in the minority though.

Re: Giving myself a Mommy Fist Pump!

DD is in a 5 point booster seat and will be 5 next month. I don't see changing this any time soon, i love her 5 point booster and so does she.

I do think I will invest in a simple booster just to have for emergencies if i need to bring a friend home with us that wont be 5 point but would be better than not being in a booster and or car seat at all.

My DS is 6.5 and still in a 5-pt. He always asks when he can just use the seatbelt, I tell him when he's 18 and has his own car. Chat Icon

DD is almost 6 and still in a 5 point harness and I do not see that ending any time soon!
However I am always amazed by kids the same age in seat belt boosters
DD bugs me all the time to have a "big girl" car seat and I always tell her when she is married Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Giving myself a Mommy Fist Pump!

DD at almost 6 still falls asleep so much in the car, it's like a sleeping pill for her.
And when she does you should see how her head hangs forward, it's insane.
No way would a seat belt keep her properly restrained in that case. No way.
It's actually scary.

Giving myself a Mommy Fist Pump!

AJ's on a booster seat, has been since 7
She doesn't sleep in the car often
I made my choice. But still at least a booster is better than nothing at all!
