I think I have made headway with DH
So I haven't mentioned MIL's visit at all this week and the last time we talked about it I got sick. Yesterday, out of the blue, DH said to me, in a little boy voice "Sweetie pie, can my mommy stay with us for a few days when she is here?" My heart wanted to scream no and I knew that would start an argument so I realized that DH is accepting that she can't stay with us for the whole three weeks and he is looking for a little give from me.
I told him I couldn't promise him anything but we could see how they get along when she gets here. If they don't get into too many arguments she can stay for Thanksgiving weekend.
Last night he continued the discussion with the same little boy attitude. I told him that I don't hate his mother but I have a stressful time with her and I know he does too. I let him know that since she is my MIL and not my mother, I don't feel comfortable telling her when she is smothering or annoying me (I could tell my own mother, but not his). I told him that we will play everything as it goes but if she stays with us, I need him to be the one who takes over and steps in if she stresses me. I know he has trouble standing up to his mother, but I told him that I will need that from him. MIL can't expect all of my attention, nor can she take all of DH's attention.
I think we have made progress and I may have finally gotten him to understand that I don't hate her but I just need my own space and I need privacy with him. I want to know that if I come home from work at 10PM and want to relax, I don't have to go to bed to do so.
Phew! I hope this is going to work!
I also told him that he has to understand that his father CANNOT come and visit the last two weeks of January when I am due the beginning of February!!!!
