Sleep schedule
I have a 2 week old and I want to get him on a sleep schedule as soon as possible. Right now he sleeps most of the time which I'm assuming is pretty routine for newborns. He wakes up around 9:30 for a feeding gets dressed and out of the basinette. He sleeps in the pack n play, swing, or rocket during the day. Before his late feeding around 10 he gets put in PJs and swaddle and then back in the basinette.
Sound ok for now? When should he start being encouraged to stay awake more with set nap times? Any tips for a better routine?

At that age there is no schedule! I did the easy method: eat, activity, sleep/your time. DS started staying up for longer stretches around 2-3 months. There was no schedule until 6-9 months.

Sleep schedule
No schedule for a newborn. They sleep when the want and eat when they want. I wouldn't encourage him to stay awake. They actually say if you do this during the day, they won't sleep well at night.

Sleep schedule
I also have a 2 week old. He's been eating every 3-3.5 hrs, sometimes stays awake for a little while and other times sleeps thru until the next feeding. Overnight (in his crib swaddled w/ sound machine) the last few nights he has gone 4 or 5 hour stretches between feedings which has been really nice! I read- 12 hrs of sleep by 12 weeks- and I kind of use it as a guideline to what I want his schedule to eventually look like. I dont follow everything in the book but its a nice overall guideline. She says in the book up to 6-8 weeks just enjoy your baby, no schedule to put him/her on but at the same time don't create bad habits. I def recommend the book!

Don't worry he won't need to be encouraged to stay awake... When they are ready to be awake more they will.

I do this too. The EASY method.

I liked EASY, too, but not until much older. First 3 months are just keeping yourself afloat. Do whatever works. And, it will change 139449580943 more times. What you're doing today will not be what you're doing next week, or maybe even in 3 days!
After about 12 weeks, sleep starts to consolidate and you may be able to start thinking about a routine then.
