Random hives
My DD is 4.5. About 3 weeks ago she had a stomach virus that lasted a week. Ever since she has been better, I have noticed that she will randomly get hives or scratch like marks on her arms, face or neck at least once a day or sometimes a few times a day. She says they don't itch or bother her. And the marks usually go away within a few mins. It's like they disappear as fast as they appear. She does not have any allergies that we are aware of and we haven't changed soaps, detergents, etc. Everything is still the same. What could these be? Should I have her allergy tested?

Re: Random hives
Did they check her for strep? This fall a child we know had hives and no other symptoms, turns out she had strep and her ped said it was not uncommon. It could also be an allergy, but most causes of hives are unknown. I only mention the strep because you said it started after she was sick, vomiting can be a symptom of strep.

Yes, they checked for strep and it was negative. I brought her to the ped on day 5 of her stomach virus and that's when they checked. It's just so strange to me and they don't bother her at all.

Random hives
Could be a virus. When DS was about 2 he would break out in random hives. One day they we're so bad I got a call from daycare to pick him up. I took him to the Dr and by the time we got there he was fine. They sent us to an allergist and they tested him for a bunch of things that came back negative. The Dr said it seemed to be viral and it could last a few weeks. After 3 or 4 weeks they went away completely. The allergist said if he had been sick recently (which he had a cold about a week before the hives started) then he probably still have a virus in his system and it just has to run it's course.

Re: Random hives
My dd gets these after a virus. She's also gotten them twice after a virus turned into bacterial pneumonia, requiring antibiotics. She was tested for antibiotic allergy, but was negative. The doctors said it's likely how the virus manifests itself. They have me give her Zyrtec for a week or two and have me bring her in once every few days.

Re: Random hives
After a virus its not uncommon for kids/babies to get hives that come and go for a bit . My daughter is MSPI and even with those cut out of my diet she still gets random hives all the time with no explanation. They don't bother her at all but it bothers the heck out of me

Random hives
My daughter just had this a couple months ago after a virus. The virus ran its course, and once it was over, she was getting these random hives in different places almost every day. It lasted about 3 weeks or so. They never seemed to bother her and would fade after a few mins. We talked to our ped about it and she said that is fairly common following a virus.
