We have a new ped, and she told me not to home make any root vegetables until baby is 9 months because of a certain bacteria (not the nitrates). Has anyone else's dr told them that?

Wouldn't cooking the veggies kill the bacteria?

No. I have never heard of that. I have been making carrots, potatoes and squash (I'm not sure if that's a root veggie) for DS since he was about 6 months old.

I was curious so I tried to research a little. The only thing I came across is that root vegetables are more prone to the bacteria that causes botulism. Maybe that's his concern? Although I only saw cases from improperly stored packaged foods.

I would never believe that something from a pouch or jar would be better than homemade. Plus-Dd was on purees for an incredibly short period of time. It was much easier to just make them

Thanks. My old ped never mentioned anything, and I can't find anything online. Everything else she said wasn't new to me, but this left me Chat Icon
