anyone have live in child care?

I know live in child care is less common but we are really leaning towards this option. Does anyone else use a live in nanny ? and if you don't mind sharing how much do you pay ?

anyone have live in child care?

My friend does. She pays $500 a week. It's off the books and the woman isn't legal. She's there from Sunday night to Friday night. She also does their laundry and cleans.

I didn't do this but my friend used au pairs from an agency (I have no idea which one). From what she told me the cost was less than a typical nanny because you're providing the housing for the person (I'm not sure if you provide meals for them also). They were all young girls from different countries here visiting for a set amount of time. It worked well for her.

This was our original plan, but my husband is nervous about a language barrier or us not getting along and being contracted to have this person for a year.. which is why we are now looking the live in route. au pairs are very inexpensive though $200 a week.

just a heads up, there is a high upfront cost usually for an au pair through an agency. like in the $7k-$10k range. but then weekly you pay very little. it's still an affordable option, as long as you can front that much money.

My friend had one start that they didn't like. They quickly got rid of her and started a new one, so you definitely don't have to keep them if they're not a good fit.

I have a friend who did this also. Their Au Pair is from South Africa but they did interviews (via Phone/skype) for ones from a few countries.

Yes you provide meals for them and they have a limit on the number of hours they can work. So even though they are in your home there are still set hours and expectations on what they are there to do. My friend is very happy. she has been there about 9 months now.

This is the low end of the price range that I've heard for live-in. You provide meals & housing. Legal will cost more (just like nannies). Most won't clean until the kids are older. Many will cook. I hear $500-$1000.

I dont have a live-in but my nanny works from 8am-6pm. Her base is $625 for five days a week but we average about $700 due to her doing extras like laundry, cooking everyday, cleaning etc.

Personally, having an english speaking person was at the top of my list. God forbid if there is an emergency and they need to communicate with my son's teacher etc. Even now, i always have to translate at my son's school because many of the nannies there only speak spanish.
