We were thinking of driving from Miami, any recommendations for places to stay and places to eat? Would prefer to stay on the beach.

I love the Westin. It's on the water, walking distance from Duvall St, and you can take a ferry to it's own private beach.

The Southernmost Hotel. Beautiful, on beach. Not many hotels have an actual beach, this one does. It also has a sunning pier, and hammocks overlooking water. Heaven.

We stayed at casa marina. Beautiful hotel, but half of it has been renovated. We switched rooms when we got there bc I wanted a newer room. We were in the main building with a huge balcony. Pool. Beach.
Food: Santiagos bodega - lunch or dinner Cuban coffee queen - coffee Blue heaven - brunch and key lime pie Kermits key lime shoppe - chocolate key lime on a stick

We've been to Key West 4 times. We stayed at Southernmost on the Beach and the Reach Resort. Southernmost on the Beach is on the beach (obviously) and was ranked #1 on tripadvisor for a while. If it's out of your budget, then the Southermost Hotel which was mentioned by a poster, is a related hotel that is only a few blocks away and since they are related, you can use the beach facilities at the sister hotel.
The Reach Resort is also on the beach and is a Waldorf Astoria Hotel. It's related to the Casa Marina, which was mentioned by a poster. Both the Reach Resort and the Casa Marina are on the beach.
All of the hotels I mentioned are in the same area. I've only stayed at Southernmost on the Beach and the Reach Resort and I liked both.

ITA. The private beach is amazing because mose of Key West has very rocky beaches.

We stayed here last June. Loved it. I would definitely recommend it.

Re: Key West
Also go to Frenchie's café for breakfast or lunch it was awesome. We also had a really nice dinner at Michaels. There is also a really great food truck but I can't recall the name now.
