Anyone have a child with migraines/seizures
My daughter is 3 and has had 10 seizures since she was about 18 months old.
She is on paper perfectly healthy We have done every test under the moon. Ct scans. MRI. 48 hour EEG in the hospital. Cardiologist visit. ENT etc
The consensus we are leaning towards is opthalmoplegic Migraines causing seizures
She has a repeat MRI this Friday but other than that there is nothing left to test lol
We discussed seizure medicine but since she can go months in between episodes,we didn't think it was needed at this time
But now with the migraine element coming into play,I'm wondering what that treatment would be
If anyone has any info I would appreciate it
Thanks!

I know that medical marijuana helps with pediatric seizures. There's a special one called Charlotte's web, named and created for a young girl who was having seizures. It's just the medicinal part, not the high part. We watched a whole special on cnn about it.

Did the EEG show any seizure activity in the brain? It's possible to see activity even when there's no seizure. And was it a 48-hour test?

I can't help with the seizures but I have a great Neuro that specializes in migraines. I see him but I believe he sees kids too. He's right in Plainview so not too far from us.
Dr. Turner. The office is on Old Country Rd right off 135. I'd call and talk to him.

Re: Anyone have a child with migraines/seizures
My nephew gets migraines/has had seizures. He is not on medication at this point either, but he does take some type of magnesium supplement and my sister is very careful about his diet- caffeine, dyes, preservatives are all triggers. Hope your DD continues to do well!

I don't have any experience with my children having migraines but as an ocular migraine sufferer myself I agree with this. I feel like magnesium supplements help me a lot. I also have to drink a lot of water and avoid my personal triggers (biggest ones being artificial sweeteners and wine). Perhaps the neuro can offer you tips on natural ways to avoid the occurance of the migraines. Mine just wanted to put me on medication so I had to research a lot of natural remedies on my own.

Yes we did the 48 hour in the hospital
They said we could repeat it and do it this time at home
The EEG did not show any seizure activity The basically said it's gonna be a long shot for her to have one while hooked up. Bc hers come at all diff times

If she didn't have any seizure activity in her brain for the 48 hours, I'm not sure I'd medicate her. It could be something she outgrows.
DH had seizures for many years and his EEGs would show abnormal activity, even when he wasn't seizing so he was on meds. Then one day he went off the meds and the seizures stopped, as did the abnormal brain activity. He hasn't had a seizure in 5 years and hasn't been on meds for longer than that.

Anyone have a child with migraines/seizures
My daugther has epilepsy so we have been through all the testing that comes with seizures. Having no seizure activity on the eeg's are actually totally normal and really not a good reason not to medicate. My daugther has had a few of them now and all of them came back "normal" - our neuro puts no real weight to that. As you said before, it would have to actually catch a seizure to even register. So those test gave no bearing on my daughters diagnose or treatment.
Now I am not sure if it is different for your child because you think the seizures are coming from the migraines but I am kinda surprised the doctor is ok with no medication after 10 seizures. To be honest, yeah she may not have them all the time but 10 in less than 3 years IS considered alot. We had a hard time deciding to medicate as well. Finally our doctor sat us down and starting going over all the dangers and possible side effects ONE seizure could have. Any one can be life changing. It could be slowly causing damage with every single one. She could fall and hurt herself.. the list goes on. Also, she was waking up a lot overnight and sometimes would seem to be out of it or have small muscle movements.. things we really didn't think much of. Until our neuro told us she could be having seizures overnight in her sleep. We decieded to start medication and after 3 or 4 days ALL that stopped. Our neuro told us if it stoppped after taking the meds we can be sure it was what she was thinking. So i guess what I am trying to say is that I know medication is scary. Trust me, I was so against it. But I didn't realize how scary the effects of any one seizure could be either. And then to find out she was actually having more than we even thought... They are still so little so she couldn't tell us. In the end, the seizures are far more dangerous than the medication. My daugther has been doing very well since starting the meds. And I know how you feel - that you don't think its enough to medicate because its not happening all the time but 10 is way more than a 3 year old should have and is actually a lot. even if it isn't everyday there are still major effects they could be having. Good lucj to you and feel free to pm any questions you might have!

Re: Anyone have a child with migraines/seizures
Look into chiropractic care. My chiropractor sees so many babies and children for so many reasons. This is her specialty. I went throughout my entire pregnancy and then took my daughter. It's very gentle and makes a huge difference without lots of medication. Just make sure you see someone who specializes in seeing children. Fm me if you need more info. Good luck.

He suffers himself so he gets it!! I find that unless you understand the pain and effects sometimes the Drs don't get it.
