Pick a ski-like resort for me and hubby (no kids) that is less than 5 hours from NYC...
Hi all,
Hubby and I are both non-skiiers, but want to go to a fun ski-resort town for a weekend. We would be interested in snow-shoeing, cross country skiing (maybe), tubing, and hot-tubbing! Oh, and did I mention drinking?
Also, we'd be going mid-March. Are ski resorts even functioning at that point???
Help!

Yes, they are definitely still up and running in mid-March. I would look at Stratton Mountain in VT, or the Equinox Resort in Manchester, which has a cute town and is not far from Stratton

Yes - about 4 1/2 hours when I've left from Queens (depending on traffic, of course lol)

Of the ones listed above - which ones have cute downtowns with bars and restaurants...? That's what we are looking for.

Stratton Mountain has it's own "village" with some restaurants and shops - not a whole lot but they are right at the base of the mountain. Equinox is a spa resort in Manchester about 15 mins from Stratton. Manchester is a very cute town
NY Times article about Manchester
I love skiing Okemo and while there is a cute town, it is VERY small - a few bars, restaurants an shops, but very limited.
Mt. Snow is also a great mountain to ski - I think there is a town there, but not sure (I always took the shuttle from hotel to mountain when I've been there - never explored the area). I know for sure Mt. Snow has tubing - not sure about the other mountains

Thank you so much!!
If you do go to Manchester, you can't go wrong at the Perfect Wife (restaurant mentioned in the article). Love that place!
