3 bedroom house with 3 kids (one a newborn)?

Anyone dealt with this?

We have a boy (3) and girl (5) plus another boy on the way. We know that obviously the boys will share a room until we possibly move but that's not anytime soon. We're trying to figure out the most logical sleeping arrangements until the boys are old enough for bunk beds.

I'm thinking we'll move DS into DD's room for a while until the baby is sleeping well at night. If this LO follows my other two, that won't be for a good year. DS is still currently in the crib (just turned 3) and I'm happy to keep him in there but I don't want him to feel "kicked out" when the new baby arrives. A toddler bed would be the obvious next step since we don't have tons of room and I don't want to buy a twin bed just to later but bunk beds (although this is an option, we could use the twin in the finished basement guest bedroom once DS doesn't need it anymore).

Just trying to figure out what makes the most sense from anyone who has done this before or even just has a good suggestion!

Same exact situation here. Except I have 2 girls almost 6 & almost 3 still in crib. Don't know baby #3 gender. I never wanted my kids to share a room but we have for a year or so. They are girls but I would do the same regardless we are getting bunk beds. Dd,1 room is a decent size. Dd1 will get the top bunk. Dd2 will get bottom . Dd2 turns 3 I march and baby is due in May so for her 3rd bday we will switch then it will be 2 months knowing the crib and room are for baby now. Praying we don't have issues

Re: 3 bedroom house with 3 kids (one a newborn)?

This was me 2 years ago. My DS (5) and DD (3) at the time shared a room and had bunk beds while the baby had her own room.

Now the girls use the bunk bed since my DD1 is 5 and DD2 is 2 and we just put one of those things up on the bottom bunk so my DD couldn't roll out.

What's funny is, we moved and bought a bigger house, and we are expecting #4 next month, while we have the room for a separate nursery, my DS misses sharing a room and wants his baby brother in with him. Who knows how long that will last since he's 7 and in school so I don't want the baby ruining his sleep, but sharing rooms really has made all my kids so close that I don't see separating them any time soon.

I would keep the newborn in your room, or have the two boys share, I would not kick the older one out of his room. Although, if one bedroom is larger, then the two kids that share should get the bigger room.

I have 5 year old twins and a 3.5 year old and they all share a room. We are in the process of moving my 3.5 year old DS and 5 year old DS to the third bedroom and my 5 year old DD will have her own room. When we eventually move to a bigger house the boys will still probably share a room

I will have to give this more thought. I plan to keep the baby in the RnP in our room for the first few months but I can't imagine doing that for an entire year or more. I guess we could fit the crib I our room but it's not ideal.

My girls have shared from the time dd2 moved out of our room. Maybe around 6 months. It took time to figure out a bedtime routine that worked but once we did it's been good. We put them down for bed together around 815. My lo is 13 months, does not sttn, but my 3yo does not wake at all once she's asleep. The down side is I don't let her cry too long so I'm sure that hasn't helped her learn self soothing and we do cosleep part of the night but that's my laziness.

2 girls will share a room. 3rd BR is a playroom. Eventually they will separate, either if we leave here or stay. Once they get older and dont have the amt of toys they do now.

I grew up in this house with 4 siblings and we survived with sharing a room.

Especially when the kids are young, it will be fun for them to share a room. I'd move your older 2 together so you have room for the baby.

I had my youngest in the RnP in our room, but within a couple of weeks I moved her into her own room because I just can't sleep well with a baby in the room. And when I'm only sleeping 2-3 hours at a shot, I needed that to be the best quality of sleep possible.

Yes, this is exactly how I am. I just can't sleep with kids in the room. Especially with an infant, I hear every little peep they make and it will keep me from getting decent sleep. I can't imagine keeping the baby in our room past 3 months.

Exactly the same. And I feel the baby needs to learn and will cry. I'd rather have the baby separate and not wake the others. There will no issues changing again she older

We just moved our son (10 months old) in with our DD. We only have 2 bedrooms so we kept the baby in our room as we didn't want dd waking up at night when the baby cried. I thought it would be annoying but we got a white noise machine and we actually got the best sleep of our lives.

I totally understand if you have to room them together. It would have to work out lol. I just feel i have the choice. I will be in and out of the room a few times a night likely, feeding, changing etc. I'd rather not wake the others if I can avoid it. If I only had 2 rooms, I'd have to do the same as you.

My oldest actually just asked where we are going to put the baby this morning lol. She's excited to share a room with bunk beds.

This. Also I survived sharing a room w/ my sister growing up (3 kids in a 3 BR house).
