We don't have nieces/nephews, just children of cousins. We asked what they wanted & the idea the parents gave us were small, so we ended up spending about $15 each. The kids are all 5 & under and got things from Santa & grandparents too. They were happy with their action figures & coloring kits from us.

I have 4 nephews that live out of state. I sent them $30 each. I have 2 nephews that I spend Christmas with. I spent about $100 each. They are teenagers so I go them each a Puma sweatshirt, season pass to Splish Splash and $20 in their Christmas card.

Cousins kids I'd say 25-30. I don't have any nieces or nephews but if I did I would probably spend 50-75 on them.

Depends. Our nephew we spend about $30-50. We really only have my family, dh's family is small and not around. We are a big Italian family and over a decade ago we decided to do secret Santa instead of getting everyone an individual gift. Parents can't have their children (my mom usually spends about $100-200 for each of her kids and SIL/DIL) and we put a limit of $75 per person (though we often go over a little). Our son, who is 1, got a TON of gifts from the family and DH and I spent all of $30 on him from Santa.... It was great! We try to keep things minimal, it's not about the gifts for us, it's about spending time with family.

Re: Cost of Christmas gifts for family?

I have three nephew's.

My brother's son, I spend $50 but his birthday is also right before Christmas (2 days prior) and I spend $50 on that also. So, $100 total.

My sister's boys (my sister has a blended family so her and her FH, they are his two boys from his first marriage) but to me, and to her, they are equally members of the family. But, I spend about $50 on each of them.

I don't buy for any other extended. Just the children of my siblings. Then, my siblings, parents, my son, my SO, his two children, that is it.

I only have 1 niece so we usually spend about $100 on her. My DH is also her godfather. My sons aunt/godmother gives my kids a gift worth about $50 each but she also has another set to buy for on her other side.

$20 to $25. I have 15 kids to buy for besides my own.

This. Although I really wish we could end the gift giving between our cousins' kids and my kids because there's a lot, but I don't want to be the one to bring it up. lol

Why not suggest a secret santa so you only have to buy for one child?

We do secret santa with my cousins kids or that would be another 10 gifts I would have to buy for. Unfortunately, the 15 are spread out between friend's kids, nephews and nieces.

Re: Cost of Christmas gifts for family?

DH gave me a budget of $30 for each kid (12 kids), and they're all cousins kids that we treat as nieces and nephews. They range in age from 3mo-9yrs old, and it's not easy to have a $30 budget for the older ones, especially the boys.

The credit card bill just came in the mail from all the Christmas shopping and it was for $3500. There was probably about $700 of non-Christmas items on there, so Christmas in total was about $2800. I spent about $800 on him and he spent the same on me. We never really spend that much on each other, but just had good gift ideas this year.

parents - use to be $50 each, this year was over $100 each due to a perfect gift and extra help with the kids this year.

grandparents - $25 each
siblings - $25 each ( but ended up higher due to extra photo gifts)
cousin's kids - $25 each
